Had Pardew won the FA cup and not been in charge at the start of the season, he'd probably have eclipsed Sir Steve. Its easy to forget how much of an impressive impact Pardew had, and if he'd have had that over one season, rather than two, he might well have had us in Europe.

staggering to think about. I think that Sir Steve gets to keep the crown against all comers though for the number of times he's 'been there' for the Palace.

Thanks for the replies

Coppell probably wins it as he was consistent and all there
But for me the football that Venables brought in the late 70's and 80 was beautiful
Allison , yeah not great statistically , but he is responsible even TODAY for the re branding of Palace and raising the profile of the club to a different level
He changed our name from the Glaziers to the Eagles
And got in kit designers that were before their time
And did completely master Leeds , Sunderland and Chelsea AWAY , when they were all doing magnificently

ison did for the club as opposed to the team cannot be ignored and he also signed Venables and Graham who then took Allison's structure and made the club what it is today. For those reasons alone AND the team of the 80's which big Mal set up he deserves to be in there.
Sir Steve yes agreed although some of the football not so. Pullis yes he kept us up and Colin the following season showed how good Pullis was.
Pardew took an almost relegated side and didn't just keep them up but top half too and if not for Mark would have won the cup. Sadly his ego almost keeps him out of the best ever. Doog is not mentioned so far? Saved us from the third and then built a decent side/squad that got us promoted the next season. And now the joker. Dowie took us from nowhere to promotion just by getting the players a bit fitter and turning AJ into the gem he became but then brought in a lot of dross which got us relegated the next season.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Good points made above but Freedman and Dowie dont belong in this company
Dowie did do unreal things though considering how average the squad was apart from Johnson

Well Sunderland and Chelsea were 2nd Div teams. That win at Leeds though was as dominant a giant killing as I've seen

Your view on Allison is strange?
You think he is great because he changed our name and kit, whilst getting us relegated twice. Even Mullery didn't manage that.

I has to be said that Allison's double bagging of Venables and Ian Evans from QPR was one hell of a coup as far as the future of Palace went. What foresight!
So, although the stats provide one reading of'Big Mal', the profile and investment in the club's future means that, for me, he has to be in the mix, even though not the best of the lot.

Sir Steve and Bert Head are the ones, for sure.
