I liked him, big respect to Sir Steve but I hated his football personally, Smithy got us playing nicer stuff, was unlucky Ron Noades wouldn't spend enough to keep us in the prem first time round, got good players in, had some nice ideas, was always good with a quip, my favourite: "we keep winning 1-0, it's a bit like having sex, you only really enjoy it till just after it's finished." But had maybe as many bad ideas as good ones, and lost the players with his woeful tactics when we lost 5-0 to Liverpool in the League Cup semi in 2001, and if Jordan hadn't have sacked him we would have been playing in League 1. Like Big Mal draws opposing views. But I liked him and thought he was a decent coach, but maybe not solid and predictable enough for the players he managed. Thoughts?
