I was wondering how we nearly always manage to play toward the Holmesdale in the 2nd half of games.

The rules state that the kick-off to start a game is awarded to the team that lost the pre-game coin toss - the team that won the coin-toss chooses which direction they wish to play.

I can only recall about one game this season when we attacked the Whitehorse End in the 2nd half.

You kind of assume that there will be an advantage kicking toward the goal where our most vociferous supporters are. However,I was wondering if this is actually the case - I'd be interested to see the overall balance of goals scored at each end and in which half they were scored. I'll delegate this job to anyone with a spare half an hour .....

Good point. But I still wonder if it does result in more goals when you attack toward your "noisy end".

I'd imagine the vast majority of teams have a gentleman's agreement with this. It may come down to a coin toss but it might not work out well in the long run if you try to upset the home team.

Most home teams probably prefer playing towards their noisiest end in the second half so if the majority agree on that then even if the away team win the toss, they still go in the other direction but obviously want the same in return were the other team to win the coin toss at their ground.

Also, it might not even matter that much to the professionals and they're just doing it because the away fans have made a long trip and they want to see their team attacking closer up in the 2nd half.

I think when teams get desperate they start to mess around with it a bit. For example, if Hull win the coin toss on Sunday, they might think every tiny advantage they can possibly get, the sun at that time, facing their own fans in the 2nd half etc etc they'll take it and not give a damn about the Palace fans or any agreement.

Of course, if they do opt to make us play the 'wrong' way round, then they will be playing into the Holmesdale crowd for the second half - and that, given the noise that comes from that end and the close proximity of the crowd to the players, it may not be the 'advantage' that they might imagine.
