This thread proves an interesting insight into the demographic on here. I'm 45 but (just) don't remember the Mullery years - I remember with clarity Coppell onwards. From what history I know (& having seen him countless times on Sky before they improved recruitment) I understand Mullery has to be the automatic pick from those older. However - for me personally - it has to be Pulis, for a bloke to be that good (& he was) & show (whilst he was still our manager) absolutely no love or affinity for us as club I found disgusting at the time....& then he lied. For the record, personally: Burley's the worst I've seen (closely following by the dire triumvirate of Francis, Taylor & Holloway) Freedman & Pardew are the biggest disappointments - could have been so much more here at Palace if greed & ego respectively hadn't intervened. I would also like to vent my ire at the people on here who've mentioned: Warnock - I hated the bloke before he came 1st time & felt sick when he was appointed BUT he proved that he could buy into the club culture & do very well in trying circumstances (if he'd had half the money Taylor / Francis wasted we'd have got promoted no probs - as it was we were a Ben Watson missed penno away from a play off final under Warnock). You can't judge him on 2nd stint, he came in - a last minute "I've got no-one else to turn to" hail mary following the cnut Pulis. He left us in a league position no worse than Pardew did & wh he did go he accepted he was out of his depth. Since the 1st stint he's always been really pro-Palace in the media, that goes a long way with me. (again - unlikel the cnut Pulis) Hart - Throughly nice guy, came in under "circumstances Breda", kept us up, good day at Hillsboro'. Can be argued he helped DF's managerial development..... HTF can he be mentioned on this thread ?? Wrong!!

DF faced a choice - earn more money, or continue his development with a team which was top of the table, a team which held him close to it's heart & which had allowed him to endure a "Pardew-esqe" losing run only 16 games before (which like Pardew would have got him sacked elsewhere much much sooner). He chose to earn money. I'm not being judge or jury on his decision - but as a Plaace fan if I choose to label the choice of the former option emotionally as "greed"(as opposed to "sense"

May come across as a bellend, but he's done nothing but be positive for Palace. First time round he did well and brought some of the youth through. Second time we all knew it was only an appointment that'd last weeks to couple months and he knew that and accepted it.

Since I became a Palace fan as a kid, Bassett and Smith's stints are the ones most hazy in my memory I think. When I think of Dave Bassett my only image is of the Holmesdale work being completed (I think it was around the same time) and I think I spent more time gawping over at the Holmesdale from the AW than watching any actual football. We were flying under bassett.
