I think if you lined up a wall covering the far post you are not covering anything as the kicker will simply shoot to side/behind the wall thus you have taken out 4 or 5 of your players to be doing nothing. | |Goal -------Wall o ball

Why not scrap the wall altogether and have players on the goal line instead.

Re the wall again, the wall covers the far post in towards the centre of the goal, the goal keeper stands fairly central, with a good view, not saying its right, but i would be interested as to why it would not work, bit of lateral thought going on here, to me sometimes the problem is the keeper seeing it late, nice to know what any keepers feel about it, anyway going to have some guiness now, and look forward to fixture list

The only way to cover the far post with a wall is to line it up on the goal line this leaves numerous options to the oppo as you cannot play them offside .

He made a quite a large number of mistakes for a few seasons at City and apparently had shockers at Torino as well. Then there's England... There seems to be a certain amount of sympathy for Hart, because of the treatment he received from City, which was appalling in all fairness. But that does not make him a better player than he is, and he has been great in the past but has as you say been somewhat gaffe-prone for a couple of years now.

Some interesting comments regarding the wall. Personally, I think there is scope for not having a wall at all on the grounds that the goalkeeper will see the ball all the way. If the attacking team want to waste players in a wall of their own as a distraction then this only adds weight to my argument that the free kick specialists actually like a wall to work with rather than no wall? Look, I agree I am no expert and coaches have for years done things the same way but I think if someone analysed the percentage of free kicks scored that went over the wall to those that went the other side of the keeper then there may be a change in the way people think about the value of the wall. I think the main point I made which has not really been answered is whether a higher or lower percentage of goals would be scored from a direct free kick taken 5 yards outside the box with no-one in the way?
