What does this mean?

Now that the excitement of avoiding relegation and securing a record 5th season in the PL is over, what do you dudes think this means for CPFC?

Personally, I see this as a psychological turning point in our image. We were beating top teams this season and commentators were no longer viewing us IMO as PL-Pretenders. This season we were respected by most commentators as a solid PL force.

Now think back to our image in the Holloway days...

Hell, even WE struggled with our image IMO.

So, for me, thank goodness we survived the drop, because FINALLY, we have a stronger chairman (he's matured) a stronger club, a stronger manager, a stronger bank balance, a stronger manager, and a much stronger image.

We have now become a PL team that transfer candidates will see as being a much more positive and safer option than other clubs.

This time I think we've made it - After all these years - we've made it!

But we all know Palace! let's hope there's no dramas between now and the 17-18 season.

Quite clearly it is a massive achievement. But I prefer to look back eight months when people on here were taking about us qualifying for Europe. We can be pleased for where we are and we have clearly finished the foundations of a very competitive premiership side.

The next four months will be massive. Who we keep and who we get in will be really massive as to whether we are looking at half, bottom half or relegation contenders. I still think Europe is a long way off and anyone who starts to bleat about how we should be aspiring to qualify for Europe next year should wash their mouth out.

A lot of contract work, negotiations and letting go of players never to get a game to be done.

Sam and Sam for a start. Then there's what happens to Cabaye, Benteke and Zaha and replacements if worthy offers come in. Then either Sakho at a big cost or a.n.other.

The big workload continues but in Sam I trust. He is a professional. Need to get him to extend and give him a sensible transfer budget to get us away from the drop for a full season. Address that and we can attract players with some confidence their wages won't be slashed by half with relegation.

We don't know how the finances went this year, whether the Jan transfer splurge will limit spending in the Summer or mean we have to lose someone.
Agree with the op that this year could be a turning point. Guess we wont know that until the Summer is over and we see the squad for next year.

Do we need a major overhaul of the academy? Don't hear of any exciting new talent about to break through?

Would also love to see some progress on increasing capacity of the stadium even if only plans put forward.

Agree 100%, it was nice hearing "this team is too good to go down" from someone other than us.

Pretty much this, all pundits said with our squad we have we should be no where near relegation - which is true, just goes to show what a mess AP left it in.
Let's sign Sako for 2 years, defoe, keeper.. with our injuries back, should be fun

Sako has another year to run on his contract with us, we should be well past signing player who will be 35 this year from relegated teams and yes, we do need to replace Mandanda.

I think he meant Sakho not Sako [Link]

It's the first time we've got a 5th consecutive season in the top flight, and the squad is the strongest we have ever had.

Can we kick on and try for top 10 next season? Sure!

Will Big Sam be poached by a big club in a relegation struggle in 6 months time? Possibly.

Who knows what the future holds, that's why we watch isn't it

I think It's been a season of harsh realities, and a severe warning against complacency.

Everyone was screaming Europe last season - and we're a fair few years off a sustained right to be fighting for European places. This season has proved that.

Expectations next year will be largely based on what we can do in the Transfer Window.
Keep Zaha (1 More year at least) AND give him some competition (or a deputy) with a view to nurturing them as Zaha's replacement.
New Keeper
New CB
New RB
New CAM would be nice

and that's not even worrying about if we sell anyone...
sheesh, put like that, theres a lot of work to be done!

this next season should be back to consolidating our place in the league. It was far too close this year.
Oh, and taking 6 points of the Seaweed!

Dave, IMO we only need to replace the first team players like Sam did in January.
Our team gets stronger and the player being replaced drops to the bench.
EG Luka replaced Jimmy Mac,Sakho replaced Captain Dann.
Sam will know what to do.
