Apart from the facts already mentioned re cheap/willing to be benched/able to step in if needed etc in this not simply clever management?

It's likely there's a rebuild coming (with the backroom already done) so it makes sense to have a couple of the big, long-standing personalities in the dressing room (Damo & Jules) to help the squad bond.

I'm pleased for Damo & it shows what the club means to him considering he was ready to retire from football when his contract expired at Ipswich.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

There is nothing wrong with this decision. I am personally glad he is with us for another year. Hopefully he will get his coaching badges and go on to show the newcomers what playing for Palace means to him. He is also not a bad occasional player - as long as we don't have him in the starting 11 every week. Same goes for Jules.

It's interesting that so many of you chant the mantra "in Sam we trust" whereas you obviously don't as all of the posts stating that he shouldn't have given Delaney a contract extension are effectively stating that you think he doesn't know what he is doing

I think the fact of Cucking's list of never starters and out of the door players leaves us with 15 players who are ever going to play leaves us with the problem of how to bump the squad up to over 20 and nearer 25 without having to spend £100 million, which we can't afford and aren't allowed to.

One way of doing that is a 5th CB who is happy not to play and doesn't require a signing on fee, agents fees etc etc etc.

We're going to save a lot on wages of deadwood leaving but the transfer fees to bring in quality rather than more of the same is going to be huge. You can only loan in 2 is it and how many quality prem level players are free agents these days? They're usually of little use like Flamini.

I hope not. If Damo is playing regularly next season then I for one will be quite disappointed.

He's been a great servant yes and he gives it is all but he is technically poor and doesn't seem to be able to grasp the concept of 'playing out from the back'

You would like to think that we will be looking to push on next year. If that's the case then there can't be any room for players like Damo.

What is the genuine Palace target for next year to avoid relegation I think and stalwarts like Ward Delaney Speroni will still be here.

Other teams must be thinking the same not having the financial clout and resources to make the top four so they just hope to stay in the PL I guess.

Damo is good back up. Rather have him around than struggle further when we have injuries. He deserves the clubs loyalty and some fans need to remember where we came from and who helped us get there. So quick to slate players and want rid.

So outside of the big four every team should just be happy with 4th from bottom??

I'm not having a go but we are entering our 5th season in the Prem. I would like to think that we should be starting to move away from the 'I'm happy just to stay up' school of thought and looking towards a top ten finish and then further down the line at a Europa league place.

Yes we've had a difficult season but the removal of a manager who was destined to take us down and hiring a manager who does know what he's doing, and the team that we have with some additions in the summer should really see us looking at better than fourth from bottom.

Some people have mentioned the 5th centre back. Yes we had 5 this season however and due to the freak circumstances it was justified however there is no guarantee we will have 5 next season.

If we were to sign Sakho SA might contemplate selling Dann to help fund it on the basis that both Tomkins and Kelly can both cover another defensive position if needed.

SA & SL know what they are doing, Damo can still do a job for us from the bench, he's the new Hangeland!

I agree with those fans who think Damien Delaney should not be offered a new contract. He can only ever be used as a last resort substitution. We should be looking to bring on the younger players from the academy to replace him.

Makes good all round sense to keep DD in the squad for another season.
Those who want him removed do not realize his value to the club in general.
Reading all the posts the vast majority of us can see that SP and SA know what they are doing so lets welcome Damien for another year and not run him down.

The man's a horse! Don't forget that, when we signed him, he was about to retire to become a professional tri-athlete. He doesn't have pace, but he has intelligence and experiencve as well strength and stamina to spare.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

So what's the problem and he and Julian have signed up for another year.

Ward Delaney Speroni Zaha all been here since championship days are rarely injured and then not for long.

Add to that also Puncheon
