Not sure why this is a big deal with knife crime unsurprisingly rising sharply in Croydon recently. It's now the knife crime champion of London.
She should have probably been banged up but I'd be more concerned about my kids getting murdered if I still lived in Croydon.

A lot of murders are aren't they?? Maybe we should just let them all go free to..

Three strikes and you're out maybe. I feel the world would be a better place if we could all murder two people scot free. Plus, people might be more selective and think through their choices of murder victim. Imagine at school thinking "I'm going to murder Dominic because he stole my calculator...but hold on, that's using up one of my murders and in later life I might find somebody does something far worse".

This made me laugh!!!

'That Dominic is going to get it... but hang on... I've just heard Gary down the road has nailed my sister... Gary's gonna get it instead'..

Drugs, knives, opening up people with one....sounds like she's got the perfect background for being a surgeon

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

So if she was some chav on benefits with several kids she's be locked up. Because she's "upper class" she gets away with it

PS - Usual question?

Exactly.

Most murders are personal attacks and serial murderers are nowhere near as common.

First off someone committing offences like this should be jailed.

To address the point made upthread about someone off a sink estate being jailed well it wouldn't be harming their future prospects as they are probably limited anyway and it's unlikely they would be making the contribution to society and mankind that a surgeon makes.

A conviction like this would ruin any future employment prospects in the field in which she is studying.

There us research which suggests prison isn't helpful to many people who have mental health and substance abuse issues. Treatment and rehabilitation is a better course of action long term. However she does deserve some form of proper punishment so it's a difficult one.

Not comfortable with someone who again had known mental health issues and uses drugs and is violent treating me or operating on me. Especially when life in a hospital setting dealing with life or death and incredibly long hours and very difficult situations is very stressful.

Strange one all round . I am guessing reading between the lines (pardon the pun) the judge is giving her one last chance to take control of the situation and redeem herself otherwise she will face serious consequences.

I'm sorry but this isn't very good.

It's not a good thing to imply that due to social prospects that a person's access to justice should be different.

It's also not a good thing to decide someone's ceiling in life because of where they come from.

This is the kind of attitude we really don't need.

Justice is justice.... and that's for the highest and the lowest.

Statistically wise it's highly unlikely although I accept not impossible that they would be an Oxford student studying medicine with a view to becoming a surgeon. That's a fact no matter how unpalatable. Justice should be justice, God knows what the victim of this attack makes of all this however class and social status and academic ability clearly has a bearing otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation
