We are a nation of dog lovers, but the idea of looking after pigs in a more humane way is somewhat challenging at present

22 years eating a vegan diet. Perfectly happy and healthy on it.

I think if the OP campaigned for a ban on Bovril starting at Selhurst he might get more people on his side. The slaughterhouse point is spot on, when I was a young lost soul who used to get threatened by people with morals a veggie colleague explained that most carnivores could not kill what they eat - there's an overly casual attitude to meat-eating and a lot of denial, hence the defensiveness. I am sadly a pathetic hypocrite - I was pescatarian for about four years till I shacked up with my other half who is Poilish - and if meat is put on the table I'm too weak to turn it down. But her diet is much less meaty than it was - my nut roast (sage and ginger in the oil which sautes the shredded veggies, breadcumbs and cashews) and my aubergine lasagne are to die for - it wasn't my meat what wooed her.

A winkle sandwich is the only one that was created by God. Its the best sandwich in the world.
Bacon sandwich comes second, especially when eaten in a Mosque.

In a country where 99% of people are non-vegan, it's not easy being a vegan. Fortunately for me, my wife is a wonderful cook and is happy to make vegan meals every day.

Veganism as opposed to vegetarianism, is a pretty unhealthy way to live.

You can care about animal welfare and eat meat. The two are not mutually exclusive

Though I do quite enjoy the odd one, it Wouldn't bother me if I never had another steak. Chicken and fish however I have pretty much every day.
