You don't get many people eating 15 oranges but you do get people scoffing umpteen chocolate bars, crisps, pastries, tubs of ice cream and desserts, washed down with 2 litres of Coke, maybe 3 or 4. Unless the NHS drags itself away from it's 1950/60's state run behemoth attitude, it is probably inevitable. I worked directly for them for a year. The amount of "it's not my job, mate" I heard was unbelievable. I worked as 'foreman' for the newly set up Minor Works Team. The team consisted of me (a carpenter) and an electrician (I had 3 different ones as they wouldn't sign off the dodgy work they were asked to do and left). We had two secretaries, a line manager, a department manager, and a director of management. I had to have meetings with the above management at least three times weekly. I had to do all the surveying, risk assessment, method statement, ordering of materials, checking said orders, arranging when I could access wards/theatres/treatment areas/public areas, &etc. All this and much more without anyone who worked there helping me if I needed information. It was my job,"Find out yourself mate, I didn't know when I started, why should I tell you!", "But you know now", "Yeah, but I ain't telling you, I'm Maintenance" I lasted a year. The place is incredibly backward.

The NHS is in crisis, and it's turned into some political pawn where people look at funding etc. But part of the reason is because us as a society have abused it. We just accept that obesity affects huge parts of society, and the cost to the NHS is enormous. Fully agree that sweets, sugary drinks etc should contribute towards the funding. And then there's the number of gp appointments that get missed - the medium sized practice (6 partners) near where I live regularly has 25+ hours of appointments missed. How much does that cost?

You only have to be a patient to see it is not joined up. They'll treat you brilliantly for one thing but Heaven help you if you have more than one ailment. They habitually treat the condition not the person. Sorry to say the NHS is now well past its sell by date!

Speak to anyone that works in the NHS and they will be able to tell you about the inefficiency they see on a daily basis. Like any big company I guess

It solves nothing The amount of natural sugars in 3 balanced meals is not going to make you facking massive and clinically obese. It doesn't because it isn't processed and there's only so much you can eat. Processed shyte and sugary food will make you fat because it's already been broken down so the stomach doesn't have to work. So after that 2 rows of Cadbury's that were easy to chomp down, down goes another few rows, and another. If you've watched that series called 'Secret Eaters' you'll see how people try and claim they eat well but don't, because the good stuff is added to with cr&p.
