It's a mid table finish but arguably Watford and Burnley had better seasons because at no point did they look like they'd be going down.

To a degree but since SA took over we have gained more points than them so the start under Pardew was clearly our (near) downfall. In fact, since the loss to Chelski in December we have picked up more points than:

Sunderland
Boro
Burnley
Watford
Stoke
West Brom
Bournemouth
Southampton

We got the same as West Ham & Hull so, if the season ran from the time Sam took over we'd be 11th thanks to goal difference.

Overall. I'd rather have not gone through all the s***e however, it's left me feeling much more positive about next season. Anything above 14th would be a step forward but there's no harm in aiming for top 10.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

14th isn't 'basically' mid table. It's bottom third.

Don't kid yourself. We were never in a comfortable place the watfords etc were because of the damage Pardew did. It's like Arsenal fans crowing they finished above Spurs last season yet there was only one team challenging Leicester last season and that was Spurs. Look at Spurs and Arsenal now. We won't go backwards though because Sam is a professional. We will go forwards so we can all relax and hope the squad will get closer to having 20+ players who can actually produce 7+ performances in the premier league every week rather that Mutch etc.

We basically agree really; it is really about context. Had we beaten UTD we may have finished 11th or 12th say but that doesn't suddenly make our season that much better. But I do think Watford fans wouldn't be THAT happy with their season (beyond not getting relegated).

And yeah you're right I guess about 'bottom third'' but we are top of that league of 7 that Sam referred to earlier in the season. Still, need to do better next season.

Some alternative season stats:

9th Highest scorers (50)
8th Highest Wins (12)
11th Best GD (-13)
6 of our 7 clean sheets have come under Allardyce
We finish with a 1.08 points ratio per game; 1.24 under Allardyce, that ratio would have given us 47 points over a season. Pardew was on 0.88 this season when he was sacked.

I think you forgot to mention 11 home defeats =19th

Dodgy start, good September then pants until Feb.

Decent end albeit with a couple of disappointing results
