Some while ago Martin Tyler said he believed that Murphy would be a manager sometime in the future.Appears to want to stick to punditry.

Don't blame him. Extremely well paid, I believe, far shorter working week, and rather more secure than managing. It doesn't seem to matter how bad you are, some broadcasting channel or other will employ you.

Thank you for the lesson.
I am used to it, as my wife is a retired school teacher after 35 years in the classroom and my daughter is in the profession.
Always willing to learn even at the age of 64 !

Do they still need you and do they still feed you?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I am obviously hopelessly biased and/or deluded, but I genuinely do not understand why Silva would prefer Watford to us. We have a much better squad, came higher in the league and no matter how well he does he will get sacked at the end of the season. Presumably they offered him vast sums of money, but you'd have thought that there must be some football-related factors as well. All the other candidates that have been mentioned will be a step backwards after Big Sam for me.

I could not agree more, we always seem to struggle to persuade top targets to come to CP, there is something that is not right in the way we manage these negotiations. The only common denominator would appear to be the Chairman?

I recall a cartoon where Heather Mills is asking Paul McCartney "When WILL you be 64 ?" !

Why should Palace want him if they did, the Hull defence sent them down over -30 goals the last thing we need.

Watford had two more weeks on us to secure Silva. Yes, from what I've told we had talks but we also (and rightly) wanted to talk to others. Silva wasn't willing to wait for the palace job, lose out on Watford and come away with nothing.

It's true also that silva was offered more money at Watford. So what?! I'm sure Parish will have upped the offer if silva blew him away. He clearly didn't. Parish and the board will take their time which is the right thing to do.

I have given this subject a lot of thought and have come to the following conclusion;

1. We need a manager with either PL or comparable major European league experience.
2. We need stability but not without progress playing football suited to our style.
3. As part of the stability try to retain the current back room staff who have worked so well under SA.
4. My choices at this stage would be Ranieri.

apart from Hull, where he did not arrive until January, he had a very good record for such a young manager, if Palace did not want him I would be surprised as the stuff in the press would indicate otherwise, there was no smoke without fire!, I suspect we would have liked him but the usual problems came up like how much I we prepared to invest in the team and what freedom he would have to manage and develop the team?, of course I do not know for sure but the antecedence would suggest some of those if not all were sticking points and may well have been the reason Sam left?

which contacts? Contacts to spent bloody millions on unproven foreigners? Chuck unlimited money at things and we all can get a squad. But if you look at who Silva got in for Hull I would say that proves he has a much, much better eye for that side of the game then Ranieri. We stayed up because Sam got Luka and Sakho in. Getting Luka is not about contacts, its about football knowledge, knowing what a team needs, set your sights on realistic targets rather then buy blind and spent money on "names". Hence Mancini would be an awful choice.
A lot of people seem to think we have a natural place in mid table with the squad we have, but while there is quality there is no depth whatsoever, and one might argue that we were overall rather lucky with injuries last season. I know we lost Souare and a bunch of CB at the end, but imagine if either Benteke of Wilf would have ended up seriously injured.

Spot on. A lot still talking about going to the next level like the beginning of last season and as if we are already safe next season. With Newcastle returning the job will be a lot harder. A manager who is likely to throw cash around like confetti isn't going to be appointed.

Yes that's the worry and, in the meantime, the more decisive steal off our plate. Sometimes it pays to decide what you want and go out and get it, without farting about.

Anybody know why Gary Rowett ain't being linked? Something in his contract at Derby or is it his lack of experience in the Premier League?
