A style that results in us winning more than we loose and avoiding another relegation scrap. How that is achieved is up to whoever is the next manager.

Ranieri was not a possession type football manager. They won the league with the lowest possession ever I believe. I think he would be a good fit with counterattacking football. Had he stayed Leicester, in all likelihood would have been relegated, Personally I don't want Ranieri for the reasons you mentioned about the dressing room. We don't know what really went on but that squad made a remarkable comeback after Ranieri's departure.

To progress we need to be able to mix it up and not only counter attack if we manage to sign sakho and keep cabaye ( or replace like for like) add a qulaity no.10, no reason we couldn't mix it up a bit.

Interesting in the first 3 managers in the bookies favourites Sean dyche and ranieri tick the box of suiting our style and has prem experience. Where's de Boer - no prem experience and supposedly plays a possession game, which we tried under poordew and it was disastrous.

Agreed, whilst I expected them not to maintain their remarkable form the drop off was large and the turn around even more so when he departed. Looks mighty like a Pards curve and may not sit well with SP. My front runner is still Sean Dyche.

We really had such a terrible first half of last season because of AP IMO and such a turnaround to finish 14th? that unless we savage our current system and squad I see no reason not to expect to avoid relegation comfortably. After 4 years in the prem yes we should be expected to start expanding our style but because of our inconsistency I don't think that's a reasonable expectation. We need (IMHO) to keep improving our current successful but inconsistent brand of less possession, stalwart defending, breaking attacks from the wings, shutting out the game, stealing draw and wins to get 40+ points. Even if Allardyce stayed we would (I expect) have continued this until we were a regular mid-table club that was regularly securing draws and wins from 2 or more of the top 6 teams and getting a good record of results against mid to lower teams. At that stage I would have expected a gradual shift into a more possession-based style. Unfortunately, with our losing managers so often, I think it would be very risky to get a 'good' foreign manager in with zero to little experience of the PL trying to create their philosophical brand of football. Not saying it wouldn't work. Say it would be a risk. But as others have said: 'In Parish we trust'.

Sean Dyche looks ok because he comes across to me as a flexible, KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) type manager. Unlike 'make-it-complicated' Pardew. The last thing we need is drastic changes because once our defense is made solid (which is why we all want Sahko) we are a very difficult team to beat for ANY PL side. I have no evidence to support the above - just my gut feeling about him. Whoever we pick, we want a manager that is wise enough to put aside their 'dream team' and allow this squad to play to its proven abilities. So I'm saying we keep the same style of play we saw with Sam with Sahko playing and improving on that.

Freedman, Pulis and Allardyce have been a success. All put defense first and kept us as a counter attacking team. The focus on fitness was also a huge factor. Holloway failed and Pardew failed once he started to think we were a possession team. We need someone who likes to keep it tight at the back and maintains the fitness levels, it'd be nice to have a bit more possession but it shouldn't be a priority when hiring. Good post
