Apart from Wenger and Ferguson, there is a manager at today's play-off, Paul Tisdale who has been manager of Exeter for nearly 11 years.I know someone who used to work alongside him. To answer the OP's question I posted a long post regarding this subject on the new manager thread. to summarize we have been getting in older experienced managers who get clubs out of trouble. They wont/don't see Palace as career progression or a long term project for them. Only way we will get a manager to see us as a long term project will be if/when we get a younger up and coming or lesser known manager who sees us as an opportunity to build their own reputation.

No respect for points or clean sheets. No idea on defending. Players asking for defensive training and after it was so bad they took it themselves. Goals leaked in the same periods of games for obvious reasons because fitness was arrogantly ignored. Never addressed. No he wasn't sh1t at all. They're all queueing up to employ him. Watford must be fools for not hiring him. Every manager must be worried with him ready for a job offer.

Face facts. He was great for 12 months and shyte after for 12 months and gradually pulling it all apart without a clue as to how to turn the ship round from sinking. I look at him as a manager, not as a manager who was a former player, and yes I saw him over 3 figures amount of times.

Twould have been....successful manager and off elsewhere. Seems to be a curse upon us. Pulis, Allardyce, etc etc. the only thing that kept pardew loyal was his dire track record. We should have sacked him after that stupid dance at Wembley. We were already in a terrible slump in league form. And come the new season, the slump continued. naive tactics of attacking with wanton abandon against seriously talented opposition, and then looking all surprised when we concede early and then have a mountain to climb. Braunston forgot to mention that after he left he was replaced by one of the most experienced managers in England who was astonished at the appalling mental and physical fitness of the squad and had to spend three months rebuilding it from scratch. He also presumably thinks Pardew would have kept us in the Premiership last season. Given that Allardyce managed it with one match to spare and required four new high-quality players and a total replacement of the training staff to achieve that, it strikes me as unlikely (euphemism) that Pardew would have come anywhere close.
