Had anyone experienced problems with concentration, anger, feeling withdrawn and wanting to isolate themselves following surgery.

I had a major operation 4 1/2 weeks ago and I am having some problems. Have to return to GP on Tuesday if no improvement. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

They said it can happen after intrusive surgery. Likened it to the body being assaulted even if you knew it was coming and had consented. Also mentioned the length of time I was under the anaesthetic and said some pain drugs especially opiate based ones can cause problems for a long time afterwards.

Thanks

My mum did when I was a kid. Indirectly contributed to me becoming such a weirdo! That's as honest as I'm going to be about real life on here though.

It all depends on the person/patient I guess? I had a cancerous growth on my intestine removed & was told to rest up for the week. I was back at work the following day. All those years of heavy, heavy drinking had paid dividends I'd had worse hangovers. So I went straight back to work.

Had two major ops in 2015. Nobody noticed because I didn't feel the need to talk about it.

But it's compulsory to have counselling these days. You can't be normal.

It is certainly not unheard of and can relate to the nature of the actual surgery undertaken. Psychological reactions are often associated with forms of loss although having said that I did not become depressed after my vasectomy

You may well have already seen this advice (not vasectomy related - promise):

Thanks for that dig. Now we are aware of it would you like to share whether you experienced any of the issues I mentioned?

This has less to do with Michael's surgery,...and more to do with spending too much time on (anti)social meeja.

Go outside and meet some real people, not spending all your time talking to social mis-fits and inadequates on the HOL.

Really sorry to hear that, Dermot...no wonder you got testy about my whingeing about my own health. Old men forget (in my case)!

Yes. And more. And will continue to. Forever.

Not a dig. I just don't feel the need to share it with strangers.
