Does anyone here think that if Parish seriously wanted to sign Silva up he would've gone on holiday and "got round to it" next week? Bollocks. For whatever reason, he didn't want to do that deal.

And I don't see how anyone here is qualified to call that decision into question.

Edited by chateauferret (28 May 2017 9.01pm)

He didn't bl00dy interview the man. If he needs a holiday, fine, but if that's the case then maybe he needs a DOF? To just discard a clearly talented manager who averaged more than any of our previous managers would've done with the sh1t and sh1tty situation he was in is not where we are right now. A mistake has been made here. I hope we get better than Silva but looking at the possibles I'm not as confident as some of you, which I doubt you are either if you're honest yourselves after reading things like 'he'll fail at Watford' type posts based on nothing.

What are we all so anxious about??? The targets for the summer were to sign up Wilf on a better deal, to sign Sakho (or another central defender), to get some cover at right back, 1 attacking midfielder or 2 midfielders if Yohan goes and another striker. One down and the rest are no doubt in progress. Oh and we need another manager. Whoever comes in will be delighted to see Sammy Lee in post and the rest of the support staff. We've just got to take our time to get the right manager. Relax - it's gonna be fine.
At least we weren't desperate like Watford to get someone in because they need wholesale changes this summer and quick.

Steve Parrish and the board are our biggest assets and they will make it happen. Now go and enjoy your summer!!

Previous season and how prepared was we:-

13/14 :- we was underprepared under Holloway signing the likes of grandin and maranage. Who didn't even make the 25 man squad

14/15:- underprepared- despite an disagreement with pulis left due to the transfer policy. We scrambled on the last day signing Aj, zeki fryers and even Kevin Doyle on loan.

15/16:- Pardew signed Cabaye pretty early in the window. Also add Connor wickham. Probably the best prepared we've been.

16/17 :- A lot of disgruntled fans after selling bolasie and jedinak but despite bringing Benteke, Townsend and others. The major feeling was that the squad wasn't as strong as the first 11.

Like Bexleydave said it comes a time where you fall through the trap door. Despite Parish retaining the fact that hasn't overseen a relegation , better preparation wouldn't go a miss.

Couldn't agree more. What the hell are some of you on about? As far as I know, the Premiership season finished seven days ago and our manager resigned five days ago, and, oh what a disgrace, we haven't yet replaced him or got our squad for nest season in place. I know sarcasm is said (probably rightly) to be the lowest form of wit, but FFS!

There's no confirmation of any extended player contacts, Zaha being the only piece of definite work on that front. We can't wait a month to sort out the other contract issues. Your opinion on Silva is just that, an opinion and it would appear that neither he nor Watford were "on holiday" and Zaha was well up for talking turkey as well. We're not some goliath of the PL who can easily survive the odd setback, we're a struggling club who haven't got time to piss about getting our act together, so yes there is something to "worry about".

Speroni was confirmed too.

As for the rest I was under the impression no one wanted any of the others.

I would have been happy with Silva, my point is that it is about perspective.

There is an assumption that nothing is happening or that SP doesn't know what he's doing. There is no point on rushing into an appointment unless you are certain about the candidate.

Football season hasn't even finished yet.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

I think previous seasons have proved. How underprepared we've been. Whilst I don't expect a manager in immediately. Transfer take longer to complete than their made out. We could miss out on the likes of Sagna , caballero and many others out of contract.

The only mistake would've been hiring someone he knew from early doors he didn't want. I don't pretend to know what his reasons were, but for you to walk in here and pretend to know that it was just that he was too lazy to bother his arse is insulting someone who has worked his bollocks off for the club for seven years.

Silva is clearly talented but his team's performance at Selhurst and indeed in all last three matches of the season given the position they were in were strong symptoms of being a bottler. I don't know Parish's reasons for not pursuing him but that strikes me as at least a candidate.

I do so agree. The last three managerial appointments have been firefighting exercises - best to sit and think and get this one right.

Oh, and I would think that if a candidate were going to throw you over because you said you wanted to take x amount of time to consider the deal then that wasn't the candidate for you. Within reason, obviously.

Again, the mistake was not meeting him and discarding him without discussion. We're going to go round in circles here so best to leave it there.

Btw I've been happy with all his managers but to not interview Silva, delve deeper and actually find out more than viewing a manager on the penultimate day in the sh1ttest job in the premier league yet still make us sh1t our pants until 3-0 up and that's after Sunderland got a shock win disappoints me a lot.

And actually, if Silva 'bottling it' is a concern then that gives us an idea of possible scenarios, does it not? (That's actually a criticism of forum logic more than anything else)

Am I the only one who thinks that Silva and Watford were a good fit? Watford seem to me to be as close to a continental side as we have in the Prem and Silva is a continental manager. So if that is right, why would we castigate Parish for not convincing him to come to Palace.

It is quite likely that nothing will be done for a few weeks yet. I am worried about it, but would rather wait until July and get someone decent than sign up Moyes et al on a knee-jerk.

We could always get Harry Redknapp in if we are that worried.
