To be fair, Holloway and Pulis seemed like quite a signing to me when completed, and Pardew and Allardyce had some stature, even if I had reservations. Terry Venables springs to mind going back further.

For me, initial feelings rarely match the lasting impression. I'd like to think I've learnt to sit back and give them a chance, but I probably haven't;

If we appoint Woy that will be 4th ex England Manager we have had since 1998. I must admit to being slightly more excited by the previous 3 albeit 1 was a thieving b*stard, 1 as boring as they come, and the third very good until he jumped ship.
