RIP. Devastating for his family and loved ones. Seemed like a lovely kid from what I've seen. Life can be very cruel. I don't mean this to appear disrespectful at all but genuinely out of interest why have the media been so interested in this case above other young children with a terminal diagnosis?

Nothing nastily cynical, which is unusual for the media, but his love of football, and what with Sunderland being a Prem club and relatively famous , (it could have been Adele instead of Jermaine ), meant his situation was of interest to many including us. A news story in short. If he had supported Grimsby it wouldn't have got the print volume. Tragedy and show business always has an audience.

Very sad and full respect to jermain Defoe for being there throughout his final days. The whole thing seems very very unfair to me

Thanks Kermit. It makes me a little uneasy that a child's terminal illness is valued more when it is endorsed by celebrities. On the flip side I guess if it somehow helped the family deal with it or raises money and interest for further research into his rare form of cancer then it may be a good thing. I hope the press leave them alone to grieve now though. Someone I know lost their son in a tank training exercise in Wales recently and they have been hounded by the press and chased by paparazzi before the army have even released the body. She said it's been horrendous. The cynic in me thinks that health scares, celebrities and dieing children sell newspapers like hot cakes and any combination of those things make the media salivate.
