I think there is probably only one thing that really defines whether one group of people is more intelligent than others, and that is people who read vs people who don't read (dumb c**ts).

I don't really care if people are left wing or right wing, but if they don't read, then I'm going to say they're less intelligent than people who do read (even people who read s**t).

You see this at university, the clever kids, read a lot, the rest read enough. Its one thing to be able to answer the questions based on the excerpts, hand outs and study guide. But the kids who read the textbook, the case studies and the articles in journals always do better.

Intelligence really can be measured in the books you've read. Its even an fact that an individuals substantial enjoyment and experience of life is directly correlational to the size of their vocabulary.

Never trust people who don't read. Its so good that even people who can't see have found a way around that.

Stronger perhaps...and we are probably getting into types of intelligence here. Family culture probably influences a lot in terms of how much you read....the amount of effort you put into academic stuff.....But IQ?

Some people are just born sharp....Let's not forgo the nature part of the nature/nurture puzzle.

Look at that Essex kid with the IQ larger than Hawking....shocking grammar.

It depends on the family. I would expect most teenagers living at home with their parents probably voted in a similar way to their parents....with the very important caveat...if they get on....not all...but most.

A certain number of students living away from home would be getting into that 'lefty' no fees entitlement culture and would be more likely to vote Labour. A lot of youngsters aren't really informed about life and it's easier to be radical because it's being different...and that's a form of natural rebellion....Not about intelligence or the lack of it.

This isn't rocket science...come on am I the only one who doesn't see this as plain as day?

It's the family culture and how you felt about Mum and Dad that have far more say on your politics than any so called measure of 'intelligence'.

Have you read the YouGov analysis and figures? The first age group which voted more for the Tories than Labour was the over 50s. The age at which you're more likely to vote Tory than Labour was 47 (up from 34 in 2015).

This voting swing isn't just down to your neat little idea of ''brainwashed student lefties'.

?

Was I not clear that this is all generalised? Age...life experience...more assets, generally interested in less tax....Again all obviously generalised comments but truisms in how people behave....the younger you are.... the less you have to lose... the more likely you are to want a bit of distribution.

Seriously, some people need brain cells just to keep the one they have company.

And not forgetting brain function and capacity decreases with age sometime after the 45th birthday.

Plenty of middle class Tory voters voted labour for a 'softer Brexit.' They'll return to the conservatives after Brexit and/or after a labour government that runs into, due to the economic life cycle Gordon Brown didn't believe in, or leads us into due to over promising and fiscal indiscipline.

There is also 7 years of austerity which people want us steering away from and some actual policies and a personality presenting them. These are all temporary factors, not a complete and permanent turn of voter intentions.

I think there are a lot of tory voters in that 50+ age bracket highlighted by YouGov that are with Hedgehog on this one.

HH, you've been sold out by May & Co in much the same way as the rest of the 95% of the UK they don't give a monkeys about.
