Cincinnati play Columbus Crew (MLS East. Conf) at midnight tonight - The first “Ohio Derby” between the two clubs, a match they have been looking forward too.

It is in The 4th Round of 'The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup'.

You have to start your 'Derby' match at sometime!

Unfortunately its 'American' soccer, decent enough to watch when the real stuff isn't on, but they aren't really playing for anything as they have no promotion or relegation. Go to Harrison NJ this weekend for the 'Hudson Derby' Red Bulls v *Man City Franchise FC *chuckle* and you'll see loads of Sherman's auditioning for Green St.
Until they implement a proper pyramid system where teams are rewarded for what they do on the field rather than offering a City a 'Franchise' to play in the MLS Its always going to run a distant runner up to European or come to that Mexican football.

I don't think we're ever going to see promotion/relegation in the US. It's all about the markets, sad to say. Could you see a New York, Chicago or Los Angeles team be relegated for the likes of Rochester, Wilmington or even the NY Cosmos playing at a minor league baseball park? Could you see MLS risk losing the Northwest derbies? As long as they are franchises, or single entity ownership, the only way a FC Cincinnati or any other 2nd tier club in the US or Canada could get into MLS is through expansion. When it comes down to it, it's all about the TV bucks and ESPN/Fox will not pay for small markets replacing large ones in this economy.

It would be interesting to compare NBC's EPL& Fox's Bundesliga ratings with the combined MLS ratings for Fox and ESPN.

As far as the "Hudson Derby," YAWN!

FC Cincinnati 0-0 Chicago Fire FC aet (FC Cincinnati wins 3-1 on penalties)

[Link]

Palace should scout FC Cincinnati keeper Mitch Hildebrandt after a spectacular display against MLS opposition in the US Open Cup. After denying Chicago several gilt edged opportunities , often spectacularly, he saved three out of the four Fire penalty attempts, yielding only to German international Bastien Schweinsteiger. Cincinnati had the ball in Chicago's goal in the second half of extra time but it was controversially ruled out for offside. The USL side also had a good shout for a penalty but the referee decided the Fire defender didn't handle even though the ball hit both his right arm and left hand.

I'm pleased to see FC Cincinnati beating another MLS team Chicago Fire FC to get through to the QF of the US Open Cup and will play at Miami FC away of the NASL.

I see leading goal scorer Djiby didn't play due to an ankle injury.

A great attendance of 32,287.

So MLS Commissioner Don Garber was impressed by the 42,000 at Nashville for the USA v Panama Gold Cup match on Saturday. Never mind Nashville has yet to field a club at any level (their USL club starts play next year). Garber now says Nashville goes to the top of the pile for an MLS franchise.

Just what does FC Cincinnati have to do? They are extremely well supported, have a good side and they are building a "soccer specific" ground. I'm beginning to think Sweet Fanny Adams has taken over the USSF and MLS.

FC Miami 0-1 FC Ciccinnati US Open Cup Quarter Final rescheduled from three weeks ago. They will host Red Bull New York in the semi-final at Nippert Field with a record crowd expected. Will MLS finally figure out what we Palace fans have known for over a year? Don't hold your breath.

A great win for FC Cincinnati to get through to the semi's of the US Open Cup. I see New York Red Bulls are 4th in the MLS Eastern Conference.

This is great to listen to, done by supporters. [Link]

Even though FCC's record attendance is against Palace hopefully they will break this.

The expectation is yes they will. RBNY is offering both air and coach travel to the game and expect to sell out their away tickets. FCC is hoping they have to open additional sections for their fans.
