There was also a good piece somewhere that he was linked to the Rangers job after Warburton left but would only consider a job in the Summer in order to have a pre-season. He was being very careful after his less than positive experience at Inter where he only had two weeks for pre-season and then was sacked very quickly.

. It's well known that de Boer favour a possession game. Which players will struggle with his philosophy. Can see dann and Delaney definitely struggling.

Good to see we've gone for someone who's an expert in 4-3-3 having come from Ajax where it was perfected. We've played 4-5-1 for a number of years, under Allardyce we were basically 4-3-3 with Milivojevic as the sole deep lying midfielder. Ranieri and Dyche would probably have moved us into a 4-4-2, no idea what Pellegrino favours, 5-4-1?? For the players we have now a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation works best, we have one number 4 (Luka) and 3 number 8's as it were (Cabaye, Puncheon, McArthur) no one can properly play a number 10 role yet that's one part of why I think we started to struggle under Pardew's 4-2-3-1 and his attempts at a 4-4-2 didn't fair much better. Frank de Boer will look to emulate Barca. Oh no A lot of players are needed if we want to emulate Barca. Bit of a concern with statements like this,

Here's a snippet: Offensive Organization: Possession and Interchange to Release the Ball to ‘Direct’ Wingers Ajax build from the back as part of de Boer’s philosophy to play with possession. They play with positional interchange to draw the opponent out of their spaces, often with the intention of finding a pass to one of the channels. Unlike Barcelona who overload the channels to switch the point of play with their passing, de Boer often employs quick, direct wingers like Anwar El Ghazi, Ricardo Kishna and Lucas Andersen for his midfielders to release the ball to, before they take on defenders in 1v1 or 2v1 situations. This balance is necessary to please the Ajax faithful who are not fond of excessive horizontal passing with no intention to combine and penetrate on the flanks. This is also good management on de Boer’s part to find a balance in incorporating the young, tricky dribblers from the Ajax academy, without being overly direct.

Nice analysis. I was thinking about the 4-3-3 and how that might work well for us based on the midfield trio of Punch/Mac, Mili and Cabaye, but you're right that, up front, we'd be best suited having a No 10 playing off Benteke with Wilf or Townsend supplying width. I don't know enough about Kai Kai to suggest that's a role he could grow into, but I really think that's the only tweak to the squad (outside of position for position upgrades) that we need. I read that de Boer plays 4-3-3 with the ball, 4-5-1 without it, and likes a fast transition from defence to attack. The possession element occurs in the attacking third, when/if the initial break has been stifled. I love the sound of that!

If Dann gets healthy and Tomkins stays healthy, plus Kelly and Damo, we could have a very effective central defense. Save the Sakho money for a new RB and/or No 10.
