Some might argue that it is best if a manager chooses his own 'Backroom' team as he really wants those whom he trusts/has worked with before/has the same philosophy etc etc.

Obviously a 'No 2' he hasn't worked with before might have the qualities that that a new manager requires but if he is just foisted on him this can cause problems if they are not in alignment on certain issues.Of course a sitting No 2 can provide a new manager with good information regards the playing squad etc etc and provide continuity in a positive manner.

I suppose it is not good if any club insists of retaining backroom staff against the wishes of a new man at the helm

Then you have the situation where David Moyes walked into Man Utd and cleared out all of Fergie's backroom team, and replaced with his own.

That went well didn't it ?

If FDB has shrewd he would keep on some of Sam's backroom staff, especially has he hasn't any experience of the premier league (playing or managing).

Very good point CC. I really hope FdB sees it that way.

I like Sammy Lee but I have to admit that it is often more important to have the right team rather than the right people. If the manager works better with his own coaching team then it is important for Palace to make sure that happens.

Sammy might be happy to take another role at the club or FdB might be happy to work with him...Sammy may have no interest in working with FdB because it works both ways remember.

FDB will know all about Sammy Lee and his qualities. On Talksport this morning Ronald de Boer said not done deal yet but thinks it will be soon, just sorting out backroom staff, did not discount anyone staying. To answer initial posters question Ronald said he would NOT be involved as he does media work in Holland but would be over a lot. Funny how now Palace beginning to be "flavour" of the month with the media...how fickle are they.

Do you not think replacing backroom staff at the Champions and dominant force in English football is slightly different to our situation?

Inter was a basket case at that time though and de Boer was basically set up to carry the can.

What a force that'd be.

The players would be pumped!

How attractive a destination would our club become!

OMG

I can't see why what happened subsequently would have affected de Boer's decision with respect to support staff. He was no doubt expecting the appointment to last longer than it actually did and would presumably have wanted his favoured team. The fact that neither of the two we're getting excited about chose to move throws into question their willingness to move to Palace. In any event, his brother has already ruled out a move to us.

I'd agree it's unlikely Bergkamp would move to us.

But does anyone know if he still owns a property in London? Maybe he'd like to come back to the capital where he used to live.

Maybe not, but maybe. Fingers crossed.

Evening standard article talking about Bergkamp thinking about coaching at Arsenal maybe Frank can bend his arm to come to Palace instead and form a dream team.

Also touches on if Bergkamp would want a top job as manager due to his dislike of flying.

Interesting read.
