Would be interested in hearing the views of anyone who listened today.

I was fortunate enough to have a listen while at work.

First of all Parish looked, for the most part, like the cat that got the cream. I can see why. Very good body language between them and clear belief that his man is a good 'un.

Personally I thought they did well to maintain a very positive line on the nature of appointment. Clearly 'water bottle' opted for Southampton - they brushed past that. Bit of spin around the meandering hiring process.

I was pleased to hear him say he'll give the players a chance to prove their worth before "spending the money". I wonder how quickly he'll try to transition to a possession based game.

My view...
I know we've had more success with pragmatic managers but I'm optimistic that this time we'll make a better first of it. Holloway and Pardew were out of their depth. But if we get in the mire this time - there aint any decent proven get-out-of-jail-cards left...

COYP!

Totally agree, nice post. So long as giving player the chance doesn't translate to playing Chung lee and Bakary Sakho for several games and dropping precious points before he realises that neither are good enough at this level. Hopefully Sammy Lee will put him straight on who is viable and who isn't.

This appointment a risk but we could be struggling again by November, however I don't think this will be the case. FDB a winner as long as his flexible against different opponents. A top 10 finish isnt out the question.

Very positive appointment in my opinion, especially with the prospect of giving youth a chance.
Might have been nice if they could have given Frank a mic that worked and Steve stopped playing Candy Crush on his phone for half of the time though.

There's always Sean Dyche

I can't disagree. I think Dyche would have been the "safe" option. But but but...all decisions entails risk.

Seems to me that we are spending beyond our means, that is, if we want to develop our infrastructure. So we need to take a risk on a manager who can shift us in another direction. more towards Southampton than West Ham.

Maybe Pellegrino would have done that, maybe Dyche too. But we have given ourselves a chance.

Unlike the appointments of Pulis, Pardew and Big Sam not one of the blokes in the office had much grief to offer when the appointment was confirmed. I'm really pleased Sammy Lee stays as he'll need some street smarts quick given his inexperience in the Premier League.

First impressions of FDB were mixed. He was slightly guarded in my opinion, clearly not wanting to raise expectations to high to quickly. I was not totally convinced he is an out and out leader and felt Steve looked far more comfortable in front of the press.
What i did like was that he seemed genuinely happy at getting the job and it sounds like he has a real understanding about the game.
Also reading between the lines he diverted questions about individual players and talked in terms of the squad and everyone at the club. It sounds like it is going to be a team first person which i think is the only way to go to be successful at this game.

Isn't 'likely to impress' mean pre-season as he will want to utilise the August window to the full - depending on that war chest he has been given?

Very good press Conference FEB came across cool.calm and collected.sounded a bit like Sven For an Eriksson.

I like the fact he will embrace the academy.something in my opinion that has been neglected for years.Palace is all about youth as is Ajax so it's a win win situation.

I watched a bit of Ajax beating Barca 2-1 in the Champions league with FDB in charge on YouTube.

First half they tore a very good Barca side to shreads.

Steve Parish looked very relaxed at the press confrence.

I also liked the fact that Frank wanted to come hear despite having other offers.

He plays football the right way and everyone at the club weather a first team player.Academy player and us fans should be excited having a Champions league winner and a former world class centre back in charge of us.

b******s at the BBC have completely musqouted and run with a fake news story.

At no stage did FDB say "I am excited to join a club [that will allow me] to spend a lot of money"

FDB was talking about the availability if money in the Premier League.

This is gutter stuff and what you would expect from the vulgar red tops.

I think that your reaction is somewhat OTT as the BBC's headline could have been construed as tongue in cheek and not something worthy of a rant
