Where's sarge when you need him.....

Still sulking over Flamini.

I must admit, I'd love to have his opinion on this.

If you're reading this Sg Bilko, then I think I speak for plenty on here we'd like to get your opinion on de Boer, Dutch football, palace etc.

Looks like he is not planning at least initially, to make huge changes to the coaching staff. Its looking likely that Sammy Lee will stay, which would be good news for everybody. Hopefully Ryan Morgans, the performance coacj is still in post, since he clearly made a huge didference to fitness levels

Interesting and exciting appointment but very pleased that SL etc. is staying on in the coaching staff. Get a couple of decent signings on board and hope to improve over last season. Stick to the Sam road, go down the Pards route he might be toast. Welcome FDB. COYP !!

Agree with this. Ronald De Boer mentioned a few days ago having studied Palace style, results, etc he fully understands that keeping the ball is not our game right now. We don't have the players to do it and when we do dominate possession, in recent history we have not known how to hurt the opposition.
Which is why for now FdB is not going to immediately implement a keep ball philosophy but keep our current style but (presumably) with his favoured 4 3 3 formation (which our team are used to playing) but to also introduce a high tempo pressing game to go with that. As counter attackers our opposition will not be overly comfortable with or without the ball. Playing in the oppositions half is something also that Cryuff, LVG and the whole 'total football' ideal is built upon so I would expect a very well drilled defense that can play. On the floor.
I'm not expecting wonder and awe immediately or even in the first couple of months but if he is given time, the players buy into what he is trying to do and everyone is patient I have a feeling we are going to see some pretty special football at the Palace.
Wouldn't it be beautiful to not only beat one of the big teams but totally outplay them too!
One can dream.

If Frank can get us to play like Sam did against Arsenal at home we will all be happy bunnies.

I hope his experience at Inter shows him that he needs to be flexible in his tactics. He certainly will need to be at Palace. We will not dominate games.

The below quotes from Dennis Berkamp are the only thing I've read which are a cause for concern (taken from Skysports article):

De Boer won plenty of admirers for the manner in which his youthful Ajax side won four consecutive Eredivisie titles between 2011 and 2014, but there was also criticism towards the end of his reign. De Boer's side continued to dominate possession, but their build-up play was often slow and unimaginative.

It was more reminiscent of Louis van Gaal than Johan Cruyff, and it led to criticism from his former assistant Dennis Bergkamp after he was sacked by Inter last year. "At times, it seems like he would play a positional game just because he liked positioning, as if the whole aim was to obtain the highest possible percentage of possession," Bergkamp told Santos magazine.

"I don't care much for that kind of football, it's football without any sense. You need to seek adventure. You need to have the courage to play football, the courage to take risks and not refuge yourself in a waiting kind of football."

......I also thought the BBC placed FdB's quotes about spending money out of context. I understood his comments to indicate he wasn't going to spend loads of money, yet

I noticed that. The beeb said that on tw4tter, on the red button and on their website, but I didn't hear FdB say it anywhere. They made it up. You expect that from the mirror/sun/mail but less so from the beeb. Mischief making...

I have hopes and concerns (which is natural).

Concerns

---

* I like Puncheon a lot, he is very industrious but to play possession football in and around the box needs a number 10 who has the ability to play a killer pass that can unlock defences. Punch is not quite there, we would need to find an upgrade in that position.

---

* It will take years and the patience from fans for FdB's plans and philosophy to have an effect on the youth layers coming through at the club. Do the club and fans have the patience for that?

Here's Punch playing possession football, and taking over and finishing the move brilliantly - hopefully he can do more of this!

And that goal was from over a year ago and it isn't him playing a killer pass. It's more a case of that proves my concern. Yes he can do it in flashes but they are too few and far between for us to rely on i'm afraid.
