For me I hope we don't try and change too much too soon. Remember Pardew and his possession style of play? Lets not try and run before we can walk. I will be more than happy for us to be in mid table with a vastly improved home record.

Spot on Bexley Eagle, change things slowly and get the correct players into play the system FdB wants. I just want a less stressful season than the last with that idiot Pardew in charge.

Did we not lose that match? Perhaps you mean the away game.

Hilarious. The state of modern football that someone even makes a post like that on the 26th June.

True, but that was just one game. Personally for me winning is very important as you get nothing for losing playing pretty football.

I have hopes and concerns (which is natural).

Hopes:

* De Boer is a big name in football which will help to draw players to the club.

* FdB sees the club as something to build, a project.

* He will look at the club as a whole, not just the first team and instant results. Academy seems to need some love.

* He has great pedigree, part of the famous Ajax setup in the mid 90's with its your system which is something he drew on in his time as manager there.

* We are not in desperate need of a first team overhaul but our squad is depleted with the summer departures of fringe players. Really hope he has knowledge of young Dutch or European layers who can be brought relatively cheaply and who have good potential.

Concerns

* We needed a quality target man for years and this season we got one in Benteke. One of the best headers in the league. Playing possession football around the opposition box really negates his effectiveness.

* I like Puncheon a lot, he is very industrious but to play possession football in and around the box needs a number 10 who has the ability to play a killer pass that can unlock defences. Punch is not quite there, we would need to find an upgrade in that position.

* When we have tried more attacking football it has come at the expense of defensive rigidity. We have then had to fallback into surrendering attacking intent to shore up the defence. Can FdB keep both attack and defence as solid as he hopes?

* It will take years and the patience from fans for FdB's plans and philosophy to have an effect on the youth layers coming through at the club. Do the club and fans have the patience for that?

He is going to get Palace playing the Ajax way, with fast fuid attatcking play, winning the ball back aggressively as far up the pitch as possible with a wellorganised defense which can pass rather than long ball boot its way out of defense. We really do need a Sakho or near equivalent as part of this system, which we havnt got yet. Rumours tyat we might go for Veltman who might be able to help us with this system. It seems to me that it actually is changing the DNA of the club, snd as well all know, Pardew tried and failed to do this. However, with the 'January players' like Schlupp, van Aarnholt, and Milivoseviv, we are much better equipped as a squad to play like this. Personnally I very much liked how the team played under Pulis, and will miss that style of play. Personally I am excited and apprehensive in equal measures.

Agree with this. Ronald De Boer mentioned a few days ago having studied Palace style, results, etc he fully understands that keeping the ball is not our game right now. We don't have the players to do it and when we do dominate possession, in recent history we have not known how to hurt the opposition.
Which is why for now FdB is not going to immediately implement a keep ball philosophy but keep our current style but (presumably) with his favoured 4 3 3 formation (which our team are used to playing) but to also introduce a high tempo pressing game to go with that. As counter attackers our opposition will not be overly comfortable with or without the ball. Playing in the oppositions half is something also that Cryuff, LVG and the whole 'total football' ideal is built upon so I would expect a very well drilled defense that can play. On the floor.
I'm not expecting wonder and awe immediately or even in the first couple of months but if he is given time, the players buy into what he is trying to do and everyone is patient I have a feeling we are going to see some pretty special football at the Palace.
Wouldn't it be beautiful to not only beat one of the big teams but totally outplay them too!
One can dream.

Looks like he is not planning at least initially, to make huge changes to the coaching staff. Its looking likely that Sammy Lee will stay, which would be good news for everybody. Hopefully Ryan Morgans, the performance coacj is still in post, since he clearly made a huge didference to fitness levels

I think this is possibly one of the most important considerations as FdB takes over. Think this is what helped transform us last season. I have seen Frank mention the importance of fitness when it comes to playing his style of football, so I have high hopes.

A new era? Ok. Relegation place not visited? That would be a new era. What do think will happen? We are Palace, we will struggle to stay in this league for a few more years yet. If he stays longer than that, maybe we can build. But I can't see him staying as an 'also ran'. And he's not even done much to sing about. As stated elsewhere, in a one team league, life is easy. The prem ain't that.

I hope he stays. Purely for the stability, but if he is sh*te, he needs to resign before Christmas.

Feyenoord and PSV might have something to say about your notion that it is a one team league.

Didn't FC Twente win the Dutch league under McLaren as well in 2010.
