The benefit of what FDB said won't be seen for years and not with the current crop of players. However if youngsters believe that they will have a better chance of early recognition at Palace then their advisers/parents and associated leeches will tend to direct them towards us, so long as we maintain the facilities and coaching staff. That's the real benefit.

Take Williams for example. He had numerous pre season with palace to impress. With most managers opting out of place him in the 25 man squad.

I think that you will find that "most managers" didn't have to put him in the squad of 25 as he was under the age limit

The last 2 seasons. He could of been named wasn't. Because FDB arrived let's not pretend, we have the greatest academy. Improving academy will take 2 to 3 years minimum.

When Clyne was coming through the academy he was considered as not good enough and was behind Michael Abnett (currently plying his trade at Merstham) in the pecking order. Give the lads a chance to see what they can do.

Very much agree with this. If we get put some distance between us and the drop zone. FdB should be the perfect coach to want to blood players he feels might be good enough and maybe we'll all be surprised at who makes it.

Spot on, that is the only way to work it. Fight or flight. Some players thrive on the opportunity. You never know until you play them.
Unfortunately it is too risky. Ultimately Zaha and Clyne only got in the team due to the financially situation we were in not because they were ready to play first team football.

There's a lot of talk that , FDB appointment is great news for the academy products. However are the likes of Kai Kai good enough or is that there not being given an opportunity. While previous managers have joined the club, with survival as their only mission. These players have hardly flourished in the U23 game or when out on loan in the football league. Im all for giving youth a chance but they have to be good enough. Didn't the academy get graded as category B. How can we improve this. Is Gary Issot the problem.

What's your thoughts on the academy and why has it been 7 to 8 years. Since Zaha burst onto he scene.

Our lack of youngsters coming through more or less coincides with our promotion to the Premiership. The pressure on all clubs to win is enormous. Playing an untried youngster is a massive risk. Kaikai has done very well on loan but is he ready to make the step up to the Prem? On sub appearances I would say its a difficult one to call but probably not.
I'm sure I am right in saying our academy gets more investment now than it ever has year on year. Problem is those youngsters have to be so much better than when we were in the Championship in order to get a chance. Under Frank I cannot see too much changing too soon. Yes he wants to bring kids through but his brief is to keep us well away from the relegation zone. Blooding youngsters when you need points and are under pressure to win is not smart.

As people have said. It's pretty difficult to give youngsters time during religated battles.

Currently our back up to Puncheon is Lee. I would prefer to give Williams a go.

I'd also like Kaikai to be given preference over Sako.

With Lesley gone maybe Boateng will get a chance.

If we bring in 4 to 6. This stops the progression of the youth. The main question is our Crystal Palace youngster good enough or is it there not being given a chance.

Steve parish was waxing lirecal about the academy. While I understand that it's far difficult to play younger players in the prem. Even the likes of Zaha and Williams came through under Simon Jordan tenure as chairman. The reality is our academy is not good enough, because if your good enough, your old enough. I'd love to be proved wrong but can you really see the likes of Williams getting in the side. When there's about 4 players ahead of him already and will be more if new recruits join. The perfect example last season, we have a left back problem with soaure accident. Why didn't we try an academy left back, couldn't of done worse than what ward, Kelly did in that position.

Parish recently said he feels we have up to three midfielders who may be able to break through and he didnt want to block there progress by buying players in there positions.

I'd imagine FdB will make his own mind up once he's had some time reviewing them.

With that being said it wouldn't suprise me if no new midfielders joined in this window. Although personally I think we could do with a play maker.

Dreyer's the one I feel could make the breakthrough. Think he has a big future.
