I'd imagine FdB will make his own mind up once he's had some time reviewing them. With that being said it wouldn't suprise me if no new midfielders joined in this window. Although personally I think we could do with a play maker. Yes I agree. Perhaps Will Hughes might have been a good signing at £7.5 Mill but of course he has no PL experience.

Personally think we need 2 midfielders. After losing Ledley and flamini. If Luka gets a long term injury, then we have no first team defensive mid.

When in the Championship, within a few years of one another we produced Watson, Soares, Borrowdale, Wilf, Clyne, Moses, Williams and Bostock and at that stage our academy was being talked about as being one of the most productive in the country. However, with the benefit of hindsight, it's only really Zaha, Moses and Clyne who have done anything of note (Watson to a lesser degree). Is that enough over a ten year period for a club with relatively little competition in South East London? Not so sure. Would be extremely happy if we invested heavily in the academy, as fun as marquee signings are, the fans will always take a local player to heart.

Fulham were treading into our territory picking up players during their long stint in the prem. And that wasn't just London boroughs but also Redhill postcodes. Now Brighton are venturing into that area. Really we should be aiming to get the best lads right down to Horley, but we aren't. Not only Arsenal pick up the best but smaller clubs have been picking up the next best. If we can't do that then it's always an uphill battle. We need the best to play the laws of probability. It's not enough to sign up the best in the old Shirley league which I think is now the Tandridge 'A' league and the best in the few borough teams around us, and I bet they're shared between the usual suspects. We should start having a more proactive and, dare I say it, a more aggressive recruiting policy like Southampton. It's what Man Utd did before they recruited 'the class of 92.' I'm not saying that can be done again in the premier league today, but it could give us an edge over the bottom half and save and make a lot of money at some point in time. If Parish is reading this then it is something that could do with addressing. But I guess we need category A status first as a selling point when a scout speaks to kid, parents and his coach after the match they've been watched in. Edited by Rudi Hedman (28 Jun 2017 10.20pm)

It's a romantic idea, that we put youngsters in the first team, but in reality it ain't going to happen. It doesn't matter how good the academy is, it's just to bigger jump in standard. The only possible way they can ever get in the first team now is by going on loan in the lower leagues and impressing against older players, not other youngsters.

As an aside, I read a fairly interesting article earlier about how even Real Madrid are largely abandoning the Galacticos era to concentrate on young players now...

There are plenty of young players who have been bought or promoted to the first teams of bigger clubs than us in the league; Rashford, Davies, Pickford, Sterling, Alli, Kane and have performed admirably. We might not have these types of players in our academy at the moment but with the right investment and management I don't see why we shouldn't in the future. If we produce a single one and flog them to City for £30 million after a season then it pays for itself. Edited by Canterbury Palace (28 Jun 2017 10.52pm)

Two considerations Staying in PL this season Being in PL in five years' time. As many have said players who might break through can be regarded as poor against first team players. I am looking forward to going home after seeing introductions without worries - who can freely express themselves. Three up at 65 minutes is a suitable indication for a youngster to come on, and impress. COYP

I would say anyone who plays in the premier league regularly (injury permitting) has made it. And Watson scored the winner in the fa cup final.

We just don't take youngsters seriously.
