The interesting thing with this bloke is whee will he play? If FDB is indeed going to go with a back three, does he play in the centre, instead of Dann? Dann had a bad year last year, but that was injury-related, and before that he was on the radar of England / some bigger clubs according to the papers. CPFC certainly rated him highly enough to give him a 60k p/w contract at that stage, and if he is fully fit then I'd expect him to be the centrepiece of the back line.

Does he play on the right of the three? Obvious place for him I guess, being right footed, but we've already got Tompkins, Kelly and Ward, all of whom can do the job and seem suited.

Its the left side we are lacking options for. Delaney played there in HK, and though a suppose a right footer can play there (Cahill did for Chelsea) if you're buying players to suit a system then surely you go for a left footer?

We're close to signing JR who's one left sided CB and are strongly linked with Martins Indi another left footed center back.

My guess is we want Chambers as well to either play in the middle or right center back.

That would then leave Dann and Tomkins to fit it out over the last place.

In reality we'd then have three good right footed center backs for two positions which really is a minimum.

I think everyone would agree Kelly should only be considered if injuries kick in.

Ward isn't a center back and I think he'll struggle as right center back. Actually think we may off load him if this is how we're gonna play.

Earlier FdB said “I am very fond of 4-3-3 which I have played in all my life, but on the other side you have to look at you squad and I think that right now 3-4-3 is the best system,” he added. “It takes time to implement this system while everyone knows how to play 4-3-3, so we have to train hard and every player has to know his role. We can always switch to 4-3-3 but over the coming weeks we have to train really well.”

Sounds like we'll need cover across the back for both options which may be why we seem to be linked with a number of defenders.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

In case anyone's still interested in newspaper stories, today's "Guardian" says, "both clubs (Arsenal and Palace) are confident a compromise can be struck over the fee" (for Chambers). It says Palace had offered £16m including add-ons, while Arsenal's valuation was £25m.

We also have Schlupp and PVA to add into the equation either as left wing back or left midfield. So it looks like its the right wing back position that could be a problem in that neither Ward nor Chambers (if he arrives) have a huge ammount of pace?

No progress in Palace's move for Calum Chambers. Clubs still some distance apart over fee #cpfc #afc

So realistically we got chance of signing him on deadline day. If he's one of Frank targets then we should pay the fee.

I saw an article today that said Arsenal were now looking for nearer £25m.
