Cladding on the old stand

As the old stand is a timber structure which has since been cladded, will this affect Selhurst Park?

Guessing it's the former as there's been no news of any checks. I know the club love money these days but I don't believe they would be so stupid as have not checked it was fireproof.

The Sports Gounds Safety Authority has written to all clubs asking them to check that any cladding is fire retardant. No so much the same risk as high rises as we don't sleep at football grounds, but good to know all clubs including Palace will be checking.

The other big difference is that a football stand is easy to evacuate as worst case we could all run on to the pitch. That's not to say we shouldn't test it, but it's not quite the same thing.

I wonder if it is found to be dangerous whether it may in fact expedite the main stands re building and help any issues get pushed through... I'm sure Sainsburys wouldn't want to be seen to be hindering the process

The link from this poster mentions the change of cladding type. The BBC link on the same story says the aluminium had same fire rating as zinc. [Link] I have no idea if it did or didn't and that is why there is an inquiry. The spread of fire was so rapid inside building suggests to me that something else major was wrong. Each fire compartment should have had fire resistance and it clearly didn't. Back on the subject of cladding at football grounds, the club will employ a professional advice on its safety which will include fire. This expert advice will have included a fire risk assessment which I suspect will be based around safe evacuation of the ground when it is full and should cover the local houses too. Sainsbury are legally required to have a FRA as well. There would have been a requirement to carry out a FRA on Grenfell Tower however in practice this is unlikely to have been carried out by an expert but someone considered competent by Housing association Edited by Palace in the Blood (01 Jul 2017 1.04pm)
