Let's get back to McArthur.

I was just pointing out how ridiculous your political statement on the football thread was.

Fake news, just like that instigated by the 'Hard Left' on social media to discredit the Conservatives.Disgraceful but not surprising.

Going back to McArthur, he came on as sub for Scotland in the 2-2 draw with Englnad but I don't recall him touching the ball once.

According to manager Strachan and the press, he was one of the main reasons why Scotland turned the game round and almost beat the Southgate-babies. Was watching the game live on TV, have to agree - McArthur was a main inspiration.

Jimmy has been brilliant for us, it is now time to say thanks and recoup some funds.

A lot depends on the form and fitbess he shows over the first couple of weeks of preseason training. If he convinced de Boer he is an all action box to box midfielder, which he has been at his best for us, than keep. If not, cash in...

Doesn't seem to , of recovered from the back spasms. He got in December was extremely poor under big Sam. If villa offered 12+m for a 29 year old. It makes good business sense to sell. We desperately need a number 10.

Would you sell Jimmy mac ?

Really like Jimmy but do agree we need something different in the middle along side Cabaye.

That being said where does your figure of £12+m come from?

Not sure anyone would offer that for him in his last year at his age? And don't think the article you quoted does?

£12m ? All day long...

It amazes me how short people's memories are. He was a standout player before he was injured and was the first name on the team sheet through 2 managers.

People are suggesting we should 'risk' selling him to upgrade. What happens if we don't get an upgrade? We have sold a warrior who absolutely buys in to the team ethic and spirit in the hope of bringing in someone better who could be a flop a la Flamini. Also according to every source in the club he is a class act and one of the most likes blokes in the squad as well as being in my opinion a very tidy player. A few Jimmy Macs when our backs are against the wall will always help.

The bottom line is mcarthur doesn't get in the first 11. To sell him makes sense. Especially if a replacement found, so he gives his all, isn't this a minimum of a footballer then. The budget tight this year and if a player get into the starting 11. Then he's an improvement on mcarthur.

I don't know where £12m has come from.

But I would agree you take the money.

However even though not a like for like replacement. If we did sell him then we'd need cover for Milio and Cabaye as if either of those couldn't play and imagine if neither could then who fills in.

We'd really be tested possibly this is a transfer window to early to let him go but £12m is good money.

I want a DM and CM bought in with that cash and we'd have to know they be able to do a job...

Otherwise it's repeating the Jedi fiasco!

I said IF villa offered 12m. With the inflation of the TV money and their previous deals in the market 12m for Ross McCormack , 11m for Jonathon kodja and 11m for Scott hogan. Who all moved from championship clubs to villa.

If the 12m fee is quoted right and can use that funds to get Tete (3m) and veltman (9m). Then that's 2 players for the price of one. It does leaves us, need improving our midfield with cover for Luka and a decent number 10. A goalie if mandanda departs and a back up striker.

I don't see the logic. We don't have many internationals...He's a first team player if either luka or JC are injured or we need a dynamic presence in midfield. He ain't a playmaker but he's able to pick a pass. I'd rather us sell the likes of Mutch and the rest for £2mill each and see what Dreher has in his locker, for instance.

All I see is we should sell mutch. The problem is no one wants him. Like last summer, we had to sell the likes of Gayle and bolaise to use the funds to buy the likes of Townsend, Tomkins and Benteke.

I think a lot may depend on the player. If he doesn't get assurances about playing time I could see him quietly asking for a transfer. He does not strike me as a player who would be happy to collect his pay check and make cameo appearances.

With puncheon place under jeopardy if more midfielder are bought in this pushes mcarthur further down the pecking order. What about coquelin from Arsenal as defensive mid. Younger and a point to prove.
