What I trying to say is it took years to find a forward to get into double figures in terms of league goals. It's extremely unlikely that we'd sell Benteke after spending the best part of all summer,trying to convince him to come. On the face of it, you are saying we spent 3 years to get a 15 goal striker and now we have one, we shouldn't let him go. I agree with you mostly on this point. But why would we replace them with Jerome and Bamford? That wasn't Hastings suggestion at all. If Benteke cannot play possession football (I'm not saying he definitely can't) then he's not a 15 goal a season striker anymore. Fair enough, neither are Bamford or Doyle but that wasn't suggested and presumably if we sold Benteke we'd definitely be getting in a top striker for the new tactics. As the original post in this topic is how would we free up funds for De Boer, it's not outrageous to say sell our 30 mil striker to free up a lot of money to get a striker he prefers. Of course Benteke won't go anyway, so don't worry too much.

It's all well and good saying lets clear these people out but look at the squard it is way too short as it is if you clear even more out we wont even have enough for 25 man squard which will again result in panic buying of poor quality to add numbers. If we target youth then the price/wages shouldn't really be an issue

What worries me is Benteke might cop one regarding the unlikely signing of Sakho. Rumoured mid season he was unsettled(don't believe everything you read) He was reported as trying to persuade him to join us so may feel let down. You know how sensitive these players can be. Could see Hennessy looking to move if Steeevie decided to knuckle down and we could unload Ward or Kelly. I personally like Ward but gets bad press. Could see him dropping down to a team with aspirations of coming up if we signed as looks likely a couple of full backs.

I've got a few West Ham fan mates and they'd love Benteke. Without Benteke goals last season, we'd be down. Selling Benteke would weaken the side. Who could we actually attract if we sold him. We missed out on Defoe,Hernandez is on his way to West Ham. A clever manager, which I hope de Boer , would build the side around Benteke.

Benteke would not have ended up on 15 goals had Big Sam not come in and changed our style of play to something that suited him. That is not a style of play that I think FDB will adopt. At one point Benteke was being linked with a 40 - 50 million pound move to China, who's to say we couldn't replace him with Iheaneacho and Batshyuai.

In this market it makes sense to be ready to sell and replace any player, Benteke included. He's a great player but has some real limitations. He's not that mobile (compared with players in his bracket), he's fairly one dimensional, and his box movement is very poor. Bottom line: If we got 40m for him from China, I for one would take it. 25m I wouldn't.

Who have a handful of games between them. Iheanacho - prem record 12 goals in 46 games (over 2 seasons) Benteke prem record- villa 101 games 49 goals I'm glad your not the manager. Selling Benteke. What you have to realise is Benteke had been at Liverpool for a season where he played a bit part and most of his limited minutes were from the bench. The first half of the season compared to the second half were two different Bentekes. He got match fitness, match sharpness and confidence back which as much as we'd like to say, he's a professional footballer so should turn it on instantly, just doesn't happen and takes time. I fully expect Benteke to have a better season, having had a full season under his belt last year playing regularly. It's the same with Begovic, I would expect he'll be a tad rusty for half the season at Bournemouth having sat on Chelsea's bench for 2 years.
