If you knew and spoke to teachers you'd know the trope about six weeks holiday does not a cushy job make. And teachers can only go on holiday when schools have broken up and during these periods the prices are highly inflated.No good holiday deals for teachers !

I think in Spain and some far east countries (And probably many others), teachers are respected but alas in this country in the main they are not respected at all with the children knowing that any sanctions will not be punitive at all.

Conditions of employment being the cause for strike action.

I have been recently reading that due to advances in technology, some jobs will be performed by robots in the near future. One therefore wonders whether teaching will be? A robot could teach a class, it's basically repeating the same information year after year and administer pre-programmed discipline as required. If students submitted their coursework online, the robot would then be able to mark it. Also, robot teachers would not be able to run away with under age girls to France or pass on their dubious political beliefs in the so-called name of 'progressive teaching'. The problem is that the you can put a good case together for both public and private sectors. Why should teachers be treated as special? Do they deserve a pay rise more than a council office administrator, a call centre worker or bank teller? Everyone is finding it harder and the implication that certain public servants deserve it more than others is ridiculous The IFS reported yesterday that even though there has been a drop in real terms for public sector employees, they still earn more than those in the private sector with comparable qualifications.

I can assure you that my wife and daughter do NOT have "Dubious political beliefs" but I have met many teachers in the past who come into this category and I have had many a fiesty contretemps with them. She wants to go to one of his concerts at Wembley next year. I would rather impale myself on pineapple than do that. Your wife and daughter could be secret Trot's or social justice warriors. They may well be espousing the virtues of non-binary, gender neutral politics when you aren't around.

I got embroiled in so many heated arguments with teachers over the years that my dear wife insisted I never attended any social events where partners were invited.She had enough of mt fits of pique and vesuvian eruptions at these functions.

I am in favour of removing the cap, or amending it to a larger % above current inflation. Government needs the Public sector on their side, and will fail if they don't reward them.
