will de boer do what every other manager has done and put Puncheon as the first name on the teamsheet? I certainly hope not as, despite his workmate, he adds nothing to us going forward
He has been great servant to the club, but if we are to move forward we need more quality in midfield.

Let's keep the ball this season!

Agreed and put Cabaye next to Luka and get a decent number 10 like Ziyech (if YouTube anything to go by)

That's not really fair. Nor is it entirely true. Yes, he was off the boil in terms of stats last season. But to say he adds nothing going forward doesn't take into account previous seasons. We've all seen what his left foot can do. Maybe this season FDB will get him working in a different way and we'll see the old Punch again.

Either way, he's the heart and soul of the team, which there's a lot to be said for.

As much as we like puncheon we have to agree he can only go sideways and does not have the killer instinct that a decent CAM has. He had a poor season and I don't think FDB will want a CAM who didn't score a goal all season

I doubt whether your quote is true, especially in our biggest showcase match in recent times - the cup final - he wasn't even in the starting lineup

If Punch is the first name on the team sheet as you claim where do Benteke and Zaha come in the pecking order?

I think people are missing something here with Punch. Pulis played him as a secondary striker as we only had Camjam and Yannick up front with Punch. Camjam ran around a lot and created space which Punch picked up on and scored a fair few goals. In his first season Pardew played him as the attacking midfielder and he also registered a few. Last season under Pardew and Big Sam he was played more deep lying looking to spread the ball to Wilf and Andros to create chances for Benteke and this stopped him scoring

He still contributed though and was much more engaged as captain.

I'm not saying that FDB will not need to look for some competition for Punch or someone to replace him, but Punch can still do a job and he is one of our own..

I don't agree for a start.

Looks like he's going to focus on his own small tasks which is what a player out of form should be doing. Small steps towards recovering some of that form he probably can with good management. Less pointing as well if you've just come on. Lots to prove again.
