Is he a defensive midfielder?

I think he has played mostly as a defensive midfielder but only because the attacking positions are filled by the likes of Hazard, Wilian and Pedro.

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.

I would have thought Lewis Baker would have been a player more on De Boers wishlist having played in the Eredivisie for 2 seasons, unless he didn't impress FdB.

Loftus-Cheek looks alright, can carry the ball, hopefully he can play as one of the 2 in front of Milivojevic but fill in for Luka if he's injured or we have to switch to a more defensive formation.

He never impressed me when I saw him playing for England U21 but who the hell am I ? Maybe he is normally better than that but on those performances I cannot see how he could be of real benefit to us.

I did notice that he was two-footed.Right-Footed but will shoot with left-foot from edge of the box.

He seems to be a highly rated player but no one is really sure what he is best at? Personally I am sure that FdB does have a role in mind for him, and it could be as others have said to take the ball from defensive players and distribute forward? This would release Cabaye more fuly into an attacking AM? Or maybe he is going to be just a back up to McArthur?!!! I guess we will find out in due course!

Judging from clips he plays a bit like the spurs Dembele/Yaya Toure. Obviously we wish he'll be half as good as either of those but the main thing is not can he beat 4 defenders and curl one in from 30 yards but it's can he play 30 odd games a season, be calm on the ball, find his passes and be aware of his defensive duties.

Just called a contact of mine at Chelsea, apparently in training he's been known to try to take free kicks over a wall. This could be a deal-breaker as I prefer it when players try to take them under the wall.

Either side of the edge, and he only uses his right foot.

Well he was the stand out player in Toulon last year.

A couple of Chelski fans I know rate him highly & are frustrated he's never been given a run in the team.

(For reference, both also told me that Bamford was a useless bag of s***e before he ever kicked a ball for us and that Remy was too fragile for the EPL.)

He plays as more of a No.10 for the U21s

[Link]

He's definitely not a straight-up defensive midfielder like Luka - someone likened him to Dembele at Spurs and I think that's a good comparison. He's comfortable in possession, a good passer & hard to shake off the ball due to his strength.

He shouldn't be judged too harshly by not getting a lot of game time at Chelsea - it can't be easy to dislodge either Matic, Fabregas or Kante from midfield and he's not the same type of dynamic forward as Hazard or Pedro - nor in the same class as Willian.

I reckon he could be an excellent addition to what is a pretty thin Eagles midfield - especially thin if McArthur were to leave.

I hope to be proved wrong, but this leaves me underwhelmed.

If he fails, then it will be another shambolic loan from Chelsea like Bamford and Remy.

If he works out, then will go back to Chelsea as a better player with little or no hope of getting him permanently.

It strikes me as a cheap option for a No. 10.
