You are quite wrong human life begins with fertilisation, that is when an individual human being is created with its own genetic code.

The heart of a typical embryo is beating at 8 weeks and the essential organs formed and already with its unique DNA.

Life doesn't require any 'scientific basis' it started thousands of years before science law religion medecine or politicians even existed!!!!

Something obviously went wrong somewhere as these people seem to think they can determine whether life can exist or not, how many lives do they contribute to ending?

As for serious and permanent brain damage may I ask what you think actually happens in an abortion?

When you think they are led to believe its the removal of excess tissue.

Its actually mutiliation and murder of a human being.

Sorry but that's what it is, and that life could have been yours or mine.

I think you are missing the point of the OP on whether life can be sustained from a certain point onwards.

I think if you take the emotion out of and any pontification it's quite a simple calculation.

The main point about this thread is that someone is being vilified merely because he disapproves of the termination of unborn human beings. There may well be circumstance in which abortion is justified, but these days it is treated with less regret than having a tooth out.

Mary Glindon, Labour MP for North Tyneside. She voted against the same sex marriage act and is pro-life:

Is she a dangerous 'fundamentalist' or representative of the 'broad church' that is the Labour Party?

No answer. What a surprise. Leads me to assume that JRM is hated more because of his class than his views, which is prejudice.

I would say JRM is liked more because of his class. It's just some of his religious views are a bit medieval and have no overall support in general society nor in the upper echelons of Government should he be wishing to further his career there.

Out of interest, in your opinion what religious views does he have that deviate from the teachings of Rome?

They're both backwards.

Also worth noting that Sadiq Khan has voted against what the Muslim faith would teach on a number of issues.

Well, by rights, he shouldn't have any being a hardline Catholic and I would be very surprised if he did but if you know of any I'm very interested.

Sadiq is a "cultural muslim" not a religious one. Like plenty.

Sadiq Khan is a political chancer and will vote as he believes is best for his career, as opposed to sticking to any ideological dogma.

That is how a number of politicians operate and I am not singling him out for criticism for doing that.

Doesn't answer my question about Mary Glindon.

All religious fundamentalists are somewhat "dangerous", they are brainwashed after all, so yes she is to the first part and no to the second part. Like Jacob doesn't represent the general Tory view on such matters either.

So, you are saying that both JRM and Mary Glindon are 'religious fundamentalists'? You are saying that practising Catholics are 'religious fundamentalists'?

And you are apparently espousing a situation where everyone has to think that same about important social and moral issues. Now, when in the twentieth century did a political movement dictate such a proposition?
