If the Tory's chose anyone other than Johnson they will loose the next election to the great unwashed who believe in Money tree's and magic beans. Johnson will appeal to a wide cross section of people, as to most people he has the air of a loveable rogue about him, whilst at the same time being a very bright cookie, and clearly a favourite of the Brexit voters. JRM is almost a caricature of a stereo typical Tory, and will not appeal to the more working class Tory voters, he's way to posh and doesn't have the same appeal as Johnson. Davies is John Major re-incarnate and has all the character appeal of a dead rat. Point is Corbyn has proven that popularity is more important than actual substance and policy after his promising everything people wanted to hear, without little hope of delivering it. Fight fire with fire, I say. BJ for PM

My goodness, the erudite and suave JRM is not even a Minister and people are talking about him leading the Conservative Party and being PM !! He will be flattered !

I think the Tories have made such a monumental balls up of things that if there is an election in the next 2 years they are screwed. Whoever leads them. After that, who knows.

It's a reality that a lot of Tories don't want to hear it seems. I don't agree with Johnson on some things but winning the upcoming election is far more important than most of that. Johnson is a bit like Trump insomuch as he's more interested in the 'glamour' of politics rather than the nerdy backroom stuff. Like Trump, Johnson should be the front for the 'real' shoguns running things behind him.....Like Trump, I think he'd agree to that.

Johnson is a dodgy option I think for the conservatives - that Brexit Bus fiasco burned a lot of his credibility, even among people who voted for Brexit. I think he'd be a bit of a risk among the swing voters and the Remain Conservatives. Problem is, they need another Cameron (someone with charisma, a bit on the liberal side of Conservatism). Also I don't think BJ would go down too well with the Tory 'strong brexits' after his 'keep freedom of movement etc'.

One of the most disappointing things to have happened to me in recent times was to see this thread, excitedly open it and see that Jrm was regrettably not dead. The only politician I hate more (by way of accidental balance) is Keith vaz. I would happily see them both placed inthe same pine box and buried at sea while still alive. The next prime minister?! You must be fu***my joking.

I don't think Johnson is a good choice, objectively speaking, but he might be the only real choice they have. They'd be better off letting May continue - The next five years will be brutal on whoever is in power politically.

I think Johnson is viewed far more favourably amongst the non political public than you think. As for another Cameron. Well I know I wouldn't vote for him. I never voted for Cameron....I couldn't bring myself to do it.
