whats good for the goose...

So we should find the worst and most and oppressive laws we can and introduce them here too?

I dont see a problem with banning solid veils, my problem is more that the populartiy for this is based in anti muslim rheortic and prejudice concocted with rationalised hypothesis. We should also be banning masks, balaclava, ski masks etc.

Slipknot are f**ked then

They have very different ideas about modesty in some muslim countries. Well that's putting it mildly. I get that you're saying it's hypocritical and I don't disagree with you. I also don't think it's a good idea for us to replicate parts of society - restrictive governments and so on - that we look down on though.

so should we just let other faiths dictate to the UK what we should & shouldnt do as part of our everyday life as part of a christian country or should we stick to our guns?

The veil represents far more than just a face covering thougth and that cannot be overlooked.

Among other things, it's a means for them to show us that they are here among us, and here in numbers. It's a way of marking territory and demonstrating their influence. When a man puts a veil on his wife or daughter and sends her outside, he is communicating a message about the family's belief system (or, at least, his) to everyone she'll come into contact with. Patriarchal superiority is only one part of that message. Distilled to its essence, the message is basically -- f your western values.

If they can ban the bikini, why can't we ban the veil? Especially when there is actually a somewhat credible argument that they pose a potential security threat?

Has anyone ever thought of combining the best of both worlds? Have the good-looking women in bikinis and the ugly ones in veils.

How other governments run their countries shouldn't provoke some kind of tit for tat reaction. We can all travel to places where we see archaic laws, but it makes little sense to then implement similar laws here to get back at them.

We should instead seek to have a legal system that holds a balanced and reaoned view towards all religious and non religious people. If we let our emotions influence policy it doesn't often go anywhere useful.

Because we are a free liberal country and embrace multiculturalism. They don't.

But it doesn't mean our way of life is the right way

Ban the thick material mask and then hand out free those super sexy slightly see-through yashmaks to all women aged 20-40 not just strict Muslims. Bejewelled belly buttons on open view too should be enforced. Rigorously.

Anti sweat drugs are now one of the most popular drugs purchased over the counter in pharmacy's up and down the country.

Why do you think the full burka is dark in colour thick in material and traditionally worn in the desert? Its designed to make women suffer.

This upholding of the law in Belgium is a victory for equality.

Surely our values are to allow people living here to dress how they like.

Personally I don't like the full face veil but there again I don't like hoodies or jeans with the arse hanging out of them either
