The koi pond nonsense was fake news.

Why didn't you mention it on this thread?

For the same reason that I didn't come running in here with the real goofs he made in Japan. Too much Trumpfoolery, not enough time.

The media's narrative is to make out Trump is a clown and therefore unfit for office. So if they can grab any chance to do this, they will snatch at it.

Trump is in Japan with its prime minister and carrying out an age old tradition of feeding koi carp in a pond.

The media reported that while the Japanese PM spoon fed the food into the pond, Trump lost patience and just chucked the whole box in and possibly harming the fish. They conveniently ignored to report that the Japanese PM did exactly the same just seconds before but cut the video footage showing this.

The Independent [Link]

The Metro [Link]

Daily Express [Link]

The Guardian had to edit its story afterwards (see correction at bottom of page) [Link]

ITN News [Link]

The Telegraph did the clever trick of covering their tracks by mentioning Trump followed the PM's lead in the middle of the piece after going anti-Trump on the headline and imagery, maybe inserting it subtlety after noticing their error [Link]

Fake News Kings CNN did the same thing [Link]

Hurrah! The Daily Mail reported the story correctly. However, I have a feeling they updated it after finding out the truth (there is an edit time at the top but no clarification par which the Guardian tends to do). [Link]

How many of you read or watched this fake news?

Wasn't even aware of this story in either form before reading it here.

I did however read insider roomers that Mike Flynn will be indicted next.

I read it earlier, the Metro also covered it's own mistake in the caption. The whole story has been centred around the picture taken and the editors thinking how can we use this?

I did however read insider roomers that Mike Flynn will be indicted next.

Flynn is "banged to rights" on the crime of not registering as an agent of a foreign government when he took a contract with Turkey to promote their agenda in the US. He basically copped to it when he filed as a foreign agent retroactively after getting caught and after he was forced out of the job as Trump's National Security Advisor (because nothing happens around Trump that isn't 1000% ironic).

Flynn was taking money from Turkey even while he was working on Trump's campaign and even while working on the transition and even while working as the NSA. His retroactive filing is basically a confession, so he is toast on this one (as is Manafort who did the same thing).

We can assume that Flynn is being leveraged like crazy because his son is also on the same hook. It's also possible that Flynn has been indicted already but such indictment is sealed pending further activity by Mueller (a la Papadopoulos). Anything is possible at this point, but Flynn is in a mess of trouble because of this and because of his conversations with the Russians - prior to taking office - about getting sanctions lifted which were caught on tape by the CIA amongst a whole host of other inappropriate contacts with Russian officials (including having dinner with Putin).

One more thing on Flynn: his crime - failing to register as a foreign agent - is what Trump was obstructing when he first asked Comey to drop the "Flynn thing" and then fired Comey when he wouldn't drop it. Trump confirmed in a subsequent TV interview that he fired Comey because he wouldn't drop the Flynn investigation.

Some noise was made that Trump could not be obstructing justice because there was no underlying crime; well, there's your underlying crime.

With all three of those on trial, I think the capacity to flip them will lie with evidence that can be brought to bear regarding 'Acting against the US' and 'Money Laundering' offences, as those will carry the weighty sentences, and the kind of offence that can't really be pardoned.

The registering as an agent, they could probably swallow, take the hit and maybe even avoid prison time.

The charges of acting against the US and Money Laundering are always going to be prison time, and possibly serious prison time (10-20 years).

They're also kind of fringe players, the kind of people you want to flip. Also if someone has already flipped, they're more likely to want to cut a deal - plus if the Feds can get their convictions on record first, it makes establishing conspiracy charges much easier.

Part of me thinks that Trump might not have known about it. However, he was warned by Obama about Flynn (and others in politics) and hired him anyhow - That said, he's put so much out there now as public record of his own statements, he could be f**ked either way.

Looks like its now his Son in Laws turn to go under the trump bus.

Manafort is old enough that he'll likely die in jail without getting a deal or getting a pardon.

On the latter - the overarching fear being that Trump will pardon everyone involved - there's a couple of points.

Firstly, in order to receive a pardon, one has to be convicted; pardons cannot be given out in advance of a conviction. So, to get a pardon, Manafort et al have to either be tried and convicted, or plead guilty. Either way, that blows back on Trump before the ink is dry on the pardon.

Secondly, a pardon issued by a President, with the goal of insulting the President from prosecution, is an impeachable offense. Of course, the current Republican-controlled Congress is not ever going to impeach Trump, but we’re only a year away from the 2018 mid-term election that could flip one or both houses and, at the very least, put control of Congressional investigations - and subpoena power - in the hands of Democrats.

I saw it, and saw the context of Abe encouraging Trump to do it, so I ignored it.

Meanwhile, Trump did say out loud at a press conference that he had no idea there were so many countries before he became President; he congratulated Japan on having a big economy - but one not as big as his; and he asked them to make cars in the US rather than shipping them there (apparently unaware that 75% of Japanese cars sold in the US are already built in the US).

The koi pond nonsense was fake news. There's plenty of actual Trumpfoolery to go around, though.

FAKE NEWS! He was aware as he mentioned it in the same speech. He recognised the US-Japanese partnership in car manufacturing and praised the car manufacturers who were there for their US production. Yet CNN selectively picked those quotes to make him sound bad and you fell for the fake news. Here is the full speech.

Trump said: "When you want to build your auto plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. When you want to expand your plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. And in the room, we have a couple of the great folks from two of the biggest auto companies in the world that are building new plants and doing expansions of other plants. And you know who you are, and I want to just thank you very much. I want to thank you.

"I also want to recognize the business leaders in the room whose confidence in the United States — they've been creating jobs — you have such confidence in the United States, and you've been creating jobs for our country for a long, long time. Several Japanese automobile industry firms have been really doing a job. And we love it when you build cars — if you're a Japanese firm, we love it — try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over. Is that possible to ask? That's not rude. Is that rude? I don't think so. (Laughter.)

"If you could build them. But I must say, Toyota and Mazda — where are you? Are you here, anybody? Toyota? Mazda? I thought so. Oh, I thought that was you. That's big stuff. Congratulations. Come on, let me shake your hand. (Applause.) They're going to invest 6 billion dollars in building a new manufacturing plant, which will create as many as 4,000 new jobs in the United States. Thank you very much. Appreciate it."

They should add the BBC to that list...if they haven't already.

We have individual good journalism here....but no unbiased news corporations......unbiased news is impossible...the BBC use to be better because they represented both sides of an issue far better, but in recent decades that's long gone out of the window.

I've long reluctantly become convinced that the only fair system....like the court system is to have both sides represent news.....but here the left are publicly being funded...like they are effectively funded by taxpayer in education.

The BBC needs to be broken up ....and because of its politics it's a question of when not if.

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like.
