I have said on this wonderful site a number of times that I think those nice, right-leaning folk on here who attack the BBC as a cradle of lefty sandal wearers are way of the mark. Many Tories have an ideological issue with the way the BBC is funded; and many in that party [memorably Thatcher] have used this very form of funding as leverage in order to keep the BBC in line. I suspect that spin filters through to the print media and to many viewpoints. In that respect, it is funny how different people interpret in different ways. Reminds me of Citizen Kane where 2 prominent political types from each end of the spectrum stand up at different rallies and lambast Charles Foster Kane as a "communist" and a "fascist" respectively. True, the BBC does a lot of soft lefty rubbish about how black lesbian clog dancers are being denied public arts grants. And a mate who works on the Mail on Sunday [no friend to the left] is a life long labour voter who confirms that nearly all journalists are degrees to the left. However, when I turn on radio 4 or watch the 10 o'clock news all I get is either government spin, Tory Brexiteers or spokespeople for (currently) Israel and alt-right US evangelist types justifying the unjustifiable. To be honest, if an alien visited our planet without any of our informed preconceptions, I suspect they would see an organisation that is culturally liberal but fighting hard to present balance. In that sense, it is to the BBC's credit that the left/middle view the BBC as pro-establishment spokespeople for the right and those to the right see it as an organisation that models itself as behind the barricades in 68.

I respect your points however, I don't support the work that the BBC does politically as a publicly funded institution in terms of balance. It is entitled to take a position as a neo liberal left leaning TV station on private money....A kind of 'Guardian on air'. I have no objection to that. However, while I was a supporter of the BBC for decades of my life I've come to the realization that the balance of media isn't balanced at all. This criticism of the BBC has had adherents from within the BBC in the past but that argument for greater diversity of political viewpoint was ignored. As you say it is mainly down the political prejudices of the majority of journalists. However, it is not as though right wing journalists don't exist and a publicly funded institution should make it important to have far more of a balance....but it has rejected this approach. There is no marketplace of ideas in broadcasting. It is all degrees of left wing or centralist propaganda from the messages presented in entertainment programmes to the way news is presented and the stories that are chosen to be aired. Again, I have no issues with left wing or centralists news programmes being aired but this shouldn't be done under the footing of public money. No, what this country needs for a balanced society is the right wing voice to also have a TV outlet. Once Sky News was taken from the Murdochs this disappeared in this country. No balance.....and anyone disingenuous enough to mention newspapers is simply ignoring the reality that the reach and audience of newspapers is nothing like that of the main channels. I consider myself left of centre on most things.... but the media is so biased at the moment that it is pushing people to the right. I remember a producer on a news network in the states getting fired for editing the George Zimmerman call to the police. The producer edited the call to make GZ tell the police that TM was black... when in fact GZ only answered the question form the dispatcher that he thinks he was black. There is a left wing leaning to the media... it can be dangerous. Like I always say... do your research... don't believe what the media report.

This was widely doing the rounds on Twitter. And it's BBC3 which tries to be young and trendy, they're online only innit. It's hardly BBC news. Newsround's twitter account would be more credible.

Understanding the majority of credible right-wing views is dependent on self-research these days; they are very rarely discussed in the mainstream media.
