Probably likely.

However he is sounding a lot like Kim Jong Un these days. I actually had to check that this was an official tweet. I can understand it with BoJo, his mind and strategy are both owned by someone with significant strategic intellect. Trump is a complete intellectual vacuum that almost completely by accident happened upon a strategy that worked. Himself. In all his blundering glory. Perfect timing. Any other era and he’d be on the dole by now after being bankrupted by his absolutely gargantuan debt pile (highly likely the only reason he ran for office).

‘As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!)...’

Trump. The final brainfart of the American dream. What a swell guy

There's no pressing need to withdraw these troops, and it's both the usual distraction tactic and also a dereliction of duty to the kurds that fought alongside them.

His ridiculous tweet sits well with how mentally out of it he is, and also how flippant he is about the impact of the decisions he single-handedly makes.

I'd argue that the system created him, rather than 'the lefties'. Mainly the collapse of it in 2008. Although the liberals, centrists and centre left certainly contributed to it breaking free of its heavily mortgaged cot.

No it was definitely the lefties. The US having the same socially liberal elite suppressing the socially conservative views of it's people after having gradually but almost entirely lost touch with them.

The only way to get around this was a candidate who refused to play their game.

We've moved on from calling him Hitler to Kim Jong Un. What a ridiculous comparison.

'We've'

Not really champ. It's clear that in this particular instance, the language is almost identical. Edition one of the despots propaganda playbook.

'...that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits...'

Same, over exuberant hubris. Straight out of our dear leaders dotarded lexicon.

From September via Military Times:

" A U.S.-backed mostly Kurdish force in Syria on Tuesday carried out a patrol along with the U.S.-led coalition near a border town with Turkey to select fortifications to be removed as part of an agreement to set up a safe zone along the country’s northwest border, a spokesman for the group said. " [Link]

So the USA got the Kurds to destroy their fortifications in the 'safe zone' so a program of joint patrols could begin. Then the following month Trump, against military advice, withdrew support and announces that Turkish forces will be moving into the area and US troops stepping aside.

The impact of this on those who stood side by side with American soldiers until now will not be pretty.

That's a really argument for the comparison.

I’d say so yes. Especially as my point related to ‘sounding like’. Not ‘is like’.

Subtle but important difference.

We’ll have to disagree on this. 2008 onward created the perfect conditions for this to flourish. I’d give that higher weighting than the ‘lefties’. Essentially it shattered the illusion that voting for the ‘usual’ elites made sense. So they voted for another, different type of elite.

Was dubya liberal?

You could probably unearth quotes from 40 world leaders and multiple US presidents who sound like that too.
