I don't agree with Trump's signing of the 1.3tr dollar omnibus spending package. Happily agreed by both Democrats and Republicans.

But your point about debt levels is not wholly accurate when judging an economy. At least quote the ratio of net debt to GDP instead. Most economists judge an economy on growth, jobs and standard of living, while others feel increasing debt can help the economy. Personally, I prefer a nation to reduce debt but you can only do that with a growing economy with increased tax receipts and cut back on govt spending.

Ok, a fair point.
At the end of 2008, the size of the US economy was $14.5 trillion. A decade later, the size of the economy is $19.7 trillion, 36% greater.
Over the same period the national debt has grown from $9.4 trillion to over $21 trillion-- a growth rate of 123%.

Sadly this massive increase in debt has not led to good economic growth, decent employment or an improved standard of living. Quite the opposite and it'll only get worse.

In other IOUSA news..........

New Chapter 11 bankruptcies in the US spiked 63% year-over-year in March to 770 filings, the highest number of filings for any month since April 2011 (when there had been 789 filings as companies were still trying to emerge from the Great Recession).

I started this thread quite a while ago.

I said early in this thread that Trump won't be impeached over Russian links and we had a few lefty commentators insisting he would be.....actually they were as certain about it as any zealot.

Various tame insults were exchanged......Well, quite a while later and where are we with this impeachment Russia thing?

Nothing.....all the waffle coming from Muller is about other crap....essentially they are looking at Trump desperate to find anything. Trump is apparently not a subject of suspicion.....meaning that in all this time they had nothing meaningful related to Russia.

Remember all the reports....remember all the claims....All the insinuations.....All BS when it was seriously looked at.

Where are those lefty posters now?.....Well rather conveniently nowhere to be found.

It's all pathetic....pretty similar to what Obama was subjected to over a birth certificate.....amusingly partly by Trump himself.

Difference is the Democrats like to portray themselves as morally superior.

Their behaviour since Trump's election has long since put waste to that particular lie.

They aim low, we aim high my frigging foot.

Special Prosecutors tend to be political and are more interested in making a name for themselves than in justice. They are not the same as a high court judge inquiry. We saw this when Clinton was investigated the SP can't find a smoking gun so they go muck raking. I have no idea if Trump has broken any laws but I don't understand what his alleged affair with a p*** actress has to do with Russian interference in the US elections.

You are completely missing how American politics work. It does not matter how much dirt they have on him, the only people who can oust him are if the senate and the house impeach him, BOTH.

Currently both are republican controlled. It is unlikely the democrats will take back the house this November, but they might take back the senate. Either way, its unlikely we will see impeachment proceedings unless the republicans get to a point where they believe Trump is doing too much damage to the party image.

There is also the respect for the position of the presidency, other people have to fill the office after he is gone, and there has to be continued world respect for it. If Trump were to have all of his skeletons aired at once in public forcing republican hand to impeach him, the presidency loses something.

As to trumps affairs, who cares, its between him and his wife. The problem with this one though is the payment of the $130,000 and what it means for campaign contributions, and the reason it was paid. It could be construed as breaking campaign laws, according to my lawyer friend who understands the intricacies of said laws at least (i am totally confused by them).

I'm not missing any point.

I made the statement that Trump wouldn't be impeached on Russian collusion and I've pretty much been proven on this. My points were on media bias and to stress the reality that the Russia collusion noise was a over-reach and dishonest portrayal.

In fact I think you are probably missing the point. Trump has many enemies in the Republican party....a party that did just about as much as it could to stop him gaining the candidacy and then maintained a luke warm attitude during his run off with Clinton.

Muller himself is a republican and if there were any significant grounds to impeach this guy there are enough republicans who would vote with the democrats to overturn both houses.

The Republicans could point to these significant grounds as justification to their voters and then they would get Pence, who fits their model far better.

As you are probably aware, the tax cuts are partly intended to encourage US corporations to "repatriate" the trillions of dollars they have sitting in off-shore tax havens and invest the money in US business.

While this has been a failed policy in the past (Bush jnr tried something similar in 2002) it has pushed back the impending recession until probably 2020/21, by which time it is exceedingly unlikely that Trump will still be president, so he won't have to take the rap. He'll most likely go after the mid-terms later this year, as the results will lose Republican control of at least one of the houses, maybe both!

Either way, US debt will rise astronomically with the ratio to GDP reaching totally unrealistic levels. But Trump has run his businesses on the same"too big to fail" debt mountain for years,so why should he run the government any differently?

A tweet from earlier today.....

As usual the abomination, the grotesque, that six foot pile of puss wearing a human suit is lying through its fat anus face. As reported by CNN:

“Only 13% of companies' tax cut savings will go to pay raises, bonuses and employee benefits, according to a survey of Morgan Stanley analysts released Thursday. 43% will go to investors in the form of stock buybacks and dividends, the analysts predict.

Many businesses have announced splashy tax cut gifts for their workers, including raises, better benefits and big one-time bonus checks. As of Monday, more than 300 companies have announced tax-cut-related bonuses and raises, benefiting 3.5 million U.S. workers, according to the White House. Yet that's a small fraction of the 125.5 million Americans who work for a company.”

Only 3.5 million of 125.5 million workers will get tax cut money from their employers. That’s .0278 percent of the workers. Wow, not even 3% of company employees are getting something from the hundreds of millions given away from our treasury. Also if you look at the roughly 30 million businesses in the US that 300 number is pathetic. So a massive 10% of businesses are giving some to their workers? Well, how magnanimous of them. And if you look at the split between manufacturing and service industry it gets worse. For manufacturing the labor compensation is only 8.9% of the tax cut savings while 46.7% goes to stock buybacks and dividends.

No idea what your point is or was, but 10% of 30 million is not 300. Nor is 3.5m 0.278% of 125.5m, it's 2.78%

Trump's tax changes......I'm not ideologically driven on them either way. I look at results not pre-decide. The way I view them is that this is the one large plank of Trump's campaign that he's managed to get through.

To that end I've always been a believer that a president should be allowed to get the main planks of their programme through as that is what they were elected on and should be judged on.

The America economy is doing well..... and I reject all the salty crap from Trump haters that this has nothing to do with him.

However it is still too soon to say whether Trump's tax changes will improve or damage the US economy. At the moment it looks like it's going to improve US investment into the economy, both in terms of jobs and in terms of stock markets.

It puts the democrats onto the back foot because essentially they will be running on a program of significantly raising taxes.

Well he has just retained Big Bill's old attorney (wonder the reasoning), and Rudi has dropped him in it big style.

You must remember that the world is not equitable just because the Republican attack on Clinton did not work; it does not mean the old "shower" lover will get a free pass.
