As for Don Jr., we don’t know if it was legal or illegal as we don’t know the full details of the meeting. It really depends on what they requested or accepted from the foreign agents (Russians). Simply meeting someone was not illegal, but seeking to gain something of value in that meeting was. That is why the Republican and Democrat opponents of Trump used a third party to do their digging. It might amount to the same thing in the end, but it is a legal nicety to meet the letter of the law.

As for consequences and the length of the current investigation, Clinton was under investigation for years (1992-1998 (?)) by Starr, so the current investigation is hardly prolonged in comparison. That being said, all the key players in Whitewater, bar the Clintons, ended up with felony convictions. I can’t speak to the Obama thing you are sliding to as I have not read much about it. The same can be said of Nixon, as almost everyone else ended up in jail. Personally, a plague on all their houses and they should be held to account in the same way as their minions were.

I should make it clear, I am not a fan of impeachment as I think things should be decided at the ballot box. Of course, if Trump actively engaged and cooperated with the Russians to win the election then he should be impeached and prosecuted. It is a big if, but it is crucial to know given the ongoing attacks on elections in a number of western democracies.
