Just like the story that Maggie ordered e's to be given to football supporters to stop hooliganism in the eighties, it appears that someone in Germany is manufacturing disco biscuits in the shape of Trump, presumably to bring the nazi's and antifa together in one sweaty, gurning, orgiastic pile of love:

Or they could just be taking the piss.

His approval has plummeted into the mid-30s nationally and, importantly in a recent poll, also in the critical swing states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, where his wafer thin victories were what pushed him past the post in the election. So the base is still with him.

But, he's also Marmite in that there's very few poll respondents in the "don't know" category as his corresponding disapproval ratings are 60+. That is making potty-trained Republicans nervous, which is why many are already equivocating on whether Trump will be their nominee in 2020 (I think the last sitting President to get a serious primary challenger was Ford, and he was essentially appointed to the job).

Plus, they have to keep their jobs in the 2018 mid-terms, where all the 435 House Representatives and 1/3rd of the Senate face re-election. With Trump writing campaign ads for the Democrats on a daily basis, Republicans are going to have to run hard away from the President in order to win back the moderate voters who are turned off by Trump.

Of course, this makes the bold assumption that the Democrats will have their s*** together, which is also a situation that changes on a daily basis. Right now, they're debating whether using the Russia scandal is a winning strategy.

As an interesting aside (and not to soil another thread with Trump s***), the White House put out an official statement about the death of Jerry Lewis, but nothing about the death of Dick Gregory. Probably more out of ignorance than anything else, but it's a pattern with this administration of being clueless of such things - e.g. Trump's "dog ate my homework" riff about the long-dead Frederick Douglass - likely born out of an almost total lack of diversity in the administration.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I suspect that they saw the reports of Gregory's death and thought..."Who?" Which is innocent, but also very damning.

Yeah, but then he keeps 'escalating'. And this is before the impact of things like his medicare bills will be felt by working republicans.

I suspect he'll step down as soon as he gets the tax cuts he's been promising (or more correctly put into power to achieve), and he'll cite health reasons as part of an initial defence into charges relating to Russia.

Lewis was a hell of a lot bigger than Gregory. I didn't even know who he was.

What's damning is the criticism. It's the kind of silly race based criticism that alienates people against the left.

So, if you hadn't heard of him, then he wasn't important? Congratulations, you've just passed the Trump administration entrance exam.

Cool....I'm not a 'progressive' then. I'll regard it as a badge of sanity.

It's not about being progressive, it's about recognising the passing of a figure who was significant to a swath of society. If you base such recognition entirely on your own personal knowledge, it's always going to be a navel-gazing exercise.

I'm not expecting Trump to know everything about everyone. However, if he staffs his administration with people of a like mind and upbringing - e.g. his family - then he is not going to have a breadth of knowledge that will allow him to respond appropriately when something like Gregory's passing comes along. And if he's not getting help on things as simple as the passing of a breakthrough comedian and noted civil rights activist, then how is he going to get help on things much more significant?

It certainly helps explain why Trump lurches from one faux pas to another without actually understanding why people are angry with the last insensitive or inflammatory statement while he's blurting out the next one.

You know, there are a lot of problems with Trump but to me....this truly isn't one of them.

In fact, the kind of people that this 'nothing' p1sses off are precisely the type of people I would love to permanently p1ss off because they p1ss me off.
