Really? You’ve never mentioned this before. This would be a better proposition if parliament actually worked together instead of constantly impeding and obstructing each other. And yes I know you’re working on a solution but could you hurry it up a bit?

This is the Trump thread so is not really the right place, other than the fact that what we are witnessing in the UK has definitely been influenced by the Trump era in the USA.

When the day dawns that people accept how Parliamentary democracy in the UK works and stop claiming that democracy is under threat just because a referendum result has not been implemented in the way that they expected/want it to be, then the need for constant reminders from people like me will also disappear.

Parliament does work together. That's exactly what the various strands of the opposition are now doing. Finding compromises between competing positions is never easy. The door is open for Johnson to join in. All he has to do is acknowledge the Benn Act's requirements, act upon them and then invite all sides to join discussions on how they can work together to find a solution that could be accepted by everyone. Unless he does that any compromise is very unlikely as he has alienated everybody except those determined to leave at whatever cost on Oct 31st.

My own ideas won't be offered here. I will use more objective and forward thinking forums to test them out and probe for weaknesses. If they have merit then they will be offered as discussion points to More United.

They do in many ways. In committees especially where much of the real work is done. Not everything is opposed either. Some things are uncontroversial. There is much more mutual respect, and even friendships, across the aisle than seems apparent from the knock about we see at PMQs. Johnson's approach this week has though damaged that immensely. How long for remains to be seen.

Trump reminds us of what we already know, the very base levels of human cowardice and complicity.

In the same way that educated Germans got on board with the Nazis (many did of their own accord without a need for a threat of violence) republican politicians can literally explain away any act of wrong doing by Trump, I am sure they could even go as far as covering him for rape or murder.

They do this for 1 reason alone - to save their own skins and elongate their political careers and dreams of power, influence, column inches, and money.

There dont care a jot for the country of America, they care only for themselves.

WOW! Here’s a theory about how impeachment of Donald Trump could end up being a very good thing for him!

1. The House can pass articles of impeachment over the objections of the Republicans, and refer to the Senate for trial.

2. The Senate will conduct a trial. There will be a vote, and the Republicans will vote unanimously, along with a small number of Democrats, to not convict the President. Legally, it will all be over at that point.

3. However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President's attorneys will have the right to subpoena and
question ANYONE THAT THEY WANT.

That is different than the special counsel investigation, which was very one-sided. So, during the impeachment trial, we will be hearing testimony from James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Bruce Ohr, Glenn Simpson, Donna Brazille, Eric Holder,
Loretta Lynch, Christopher Steele, Hillary Clinton, John Brennan, James Clapper, and a whole host of other participants in this whole sordid affair and the ensuing coverup activities.

A lot of dirt will be dug up; a lot of truth will be unveiled. Finger pointing will occur. Deals will start being made, and suddenly, a lot of Democrats will start being charged and going to prison.

All this, because, remember, the President's team will now, for the first time, have the RIGHT to question all of these people under oath - and they will turn on each other. That’s already starting.

4. Lastly, one more thing will happen – the Senate will not convict the President. Nothing will happen to Trump. Most people are clueless about
political processes, the law, and the Constitution. Most people believe that being impeached results in removal from office.

They don't understand that phase 2 is a trial in and by the Senate, where he has zero chance of conviction. Remember, the Senate is controlled by Republicans; they will determine what testimony is allowed -- and "everything" will be allowed, including: DNC collusion with the Clinton campaign to fix the election in favour of Hillary, the creation of the Trump dossier, the cover up and destruction of emails that very likely included incriminating information.

They’ll incriminate each other for lying to the FISA court, for spying and wiretapping the Trump campaign, and for colluding with foreign political
actors, especially George Soros.

After the Senate declines to convict the President, we will have an election, and Trump will win. It will be a backlash against Democrat petulance, temper tantrums, hypocrisy and dishonesty.

Even minorities will vote for Trump, because, for the first time, they will see that Democrats have spent 2+ years focused on maintaining their own power, and not doing anything at all about black murders in Chicago, homelessness, opioids, and other important issues that are actually killing people.

And, we will spend the following four years listening to politicians and pundits claim that the whole impeachment was rigged somehow.
