I find it funny how: "He [De Boer] tried me there when we played a game against each other and it was a position that I was playing for the first time in my life.

"I don't feel very comfortable there but I am there for the team and I will try and give my best for them, but my position is as a midfielder. I think I did OK but hopefully in the future I will play as a midfielder!"

Became: 'don't play me at the back.' (Without him being actually quoted).

Anyway, it sounds like he did well for the most part.

Just seems daft to waste a great midfielder at the back.

I agree with you but if you look at the two games where he did play as a Rcb , it was two of our best in terms of possession and retention of the ball. Yes Luka, made the mistake for the goal but to play possession you need all your defensive players comfortable on the ball. It's not unusual to see a defensive mid in the backline Man City have used Fernandinho and Bayern Munich have used javi Martinez. I think he could be deployed there unless a Chambers is signed within the next week or so.

Could also be deemed a master stroke if he turns out to be amazing at the back and we can sign another great midfielder for the midfield.

He was signed to protect the back four, if he can do that playing at the back then it frees up a midfield position for Jimmy Mac.

If Franks thoughts are playing three at the back and two defense minded wing backs in midfield is good enough to keep a tight ship then i can understand him dropping Luka into the back three rather than benching him.

But in that case is andros really defense minded enough to give enough cover down the right.

Loved seeing the crosses coming in today from him but I fear we'll be targeted on the right flank and Luka will have his work cut out as non defensive midfielder will be playing to help out.

Personally i think something will have to give.

Either a Chambers in the right center back role with Luke back in midfield or a right wing back taking andros place who can actually defend. Or am i being unfair on Andros?

End of the day chelsea play 343 and they still have room and need for Kante, can not see us not needing Luka in the middle when the prem kicks off.

Maybe or now he's helping out as the best body to give confidence to the back line / team. Until we've made a signing.

I think it's more likely that he's being played there as a placeholder and we'll buy another CB. I'm still a little unsure about how the system works and how De Boer wants players to fit in, but I imagine ideally he'd play Luka as one of the deeper central midfielders alongside either Cabaye or Puncheon, one of whom would play as the more attacking 3.

Yeah i think you're probably right. Would also be good practice for Luka should we have an injury and need him to drop back because it really seems like Ward/Tomkins arent fancied ?

I hope this is being done for understanding and contingency purpose only. I actually agree he could be a good CB if switched to that position, but the key point is that he doesn't really want to play there. Therefore, if we don't want to lose him I suggest we play him in midfield unless its an emergency.

I'd say that one-line summary of what he was saying was pretty accurate.

Could you imagine if Ward would have made that mistake?! He'd be crucified on this thread. Luka keeps making bad mistakes. 100% responsible for the goal, the bumbling id!ot who wrote the article at the top gave him one of the best ratings, but didn't even mention the awful header. Look at the Burnley game, also 100% responsible for the second goal.

There are very few goals that aren't directly due to individual mistakes and he makes them. Made 2 of the worst mistakes I've seen.

I don't think it matters who you play at the back if they are not being given protection from the midfield .Or rather you can get away with playing Dann ,Tompkins , Kelly ,Damo with the right people in front of them .

Luka is the right people .

And we still need a striker
