But back clauses are particularly unfair with a set price. Ultimately these big clubs can afford to monopolise the young talent and ensure they are protected when letting them go. I think first refusal is okay. As Arsenal had with Fabregas when he went back to Chelsea, it ensures that should the player leave the club can get him but doesn't limit the potential the selling club can make, or force their hand to sell an asset that they have grown. buy back clauses are unfair but it's unlikely to change because it favours the bigger teams and that's the way this league is going.

The problem is isn't that they do it the problem is the saturation causes smaller clubs to have LESS choice elsewhere. so all the big clubs have more talent than they need and all the small clubs have less. correct?

This is the reason the PL was invented. So that the elite in England could catch up with their continental counterparts. And boy have some of them caught up

Yes so the big get bigger and the small are impeded by the market and haven't got the same fair opportunity to grow. The larger clubs suck up all the youth players and now instead of just loaning them out, we are about to witness the start of them selling them with clauses which mean they'll let all the other clubs give them exposure and train them, just so they can hedge there bets and not disturb their first team with players who may or may not make it. Then buy them back at a stupidly low mark up. It'll control the market far far worse than the loan system. But it seems many think now we're in the big time it matters not as long as we get in on the action. Sorry but I thought that's the type of things 'our' fans don't like. We've been in the PL for 5 years now but haven't really made any headway on the big teams. We've got a much better first team to show for the time we have been up there. Maybe a few tweaks to the infrastructure and a raising of our profile. That's about it though.

The kicker is... The clubs buying back the player don't even have to offer them first team football. I.e. They could have far better players themselves and still take them back if they can then sell them on for more...
