Was there an exchange? I thought Chris as usual summed up most of our feelings on the matter...bar the obvious individual who (entitled to their view) is obviously out on a limb as far as the majority are concerned. Should you manage to get him on the show Hambo, i'd certainly be interested in how he came to looking at our board; and if so why? I think the bloke on BBS who wants to get the police involved and have the HOL shut down should be invited on as well.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

As Holradio are one of the backers for Palace & Proud's campaign of awareness this season, it was with a view to putting across the fact that both our fanbase and this site should not be misrepresented by a few individuals but also that there clearly is a problem too. I would be genuinely interested in talking to him abut his use of the thread on this site, but that would be far from the only thing worth talking about. The question as to how big an issue homophobia is seems a better discussion to me. How much is just ignorance? Why are some people so hostile to the concept? What parallels do we draw with racism? I believe you guys would give it better context too, but without having to excuse anything inexcusable. Doesn't need to be laboured but would be healthy IMHO.

If people have been misquoted then the answer is tackle BBC with acomplaint before it goes out nationally. They will view it and may instruct an edit particularly if it does not change programme message and they could be forced to publish a disclaimer. You also don't know if it was a BBC made programme or an independant. However BBC is broadcasting it so they do investigate such complaints. Inviting him on the show in my view can only have a detrimental effect at best you will prevent any further bad publicity. The only reason he will attend will be to further his agenda. If you do invite him you need to set the agenda and it should not be his programme. I would suggest His experiences of "coming out" in a game like Rugby Union and what can Football learn from this The club may have a view as I suspect they are considering there next actions

Right or wrong as that may be, Gareth Thomas' documentary was always going to be what it was, whether there was any input from fans or not. Those who thought about meeting him and didn't made a wise decision. Yeah but you wouldn't singing 'we love you ******s.' As that would be extremely offensive, even though you're saying you love them. So no even just as 'banter' it's offensive to anyone who is gay. Even if it's not directed at them. Doesn't matter if you've intended it to be or not. It's homophobic period.

It was a gun waiting to be fired, and all he needed was the ammunition to fire them. It was an obvious trap that we fell into. I blame the BBC, Gareth Thomas and the morons who posted homophobic abuse in the first place. I couldn't give a toss what that egotistical, self-absorbed talks about. I'm convinced a couple of those comments were made up (I read both threads intently after he posted the Wales online post). At the end of the day, he wants to fight stereotyping and abuse by enforcing stereotypes and abusing football fans. If they were genuinely intent on helping the LGBT community, then they would've discussed it with people such as Palace and Proud and other such organisations. Instead, Mr Thomas is employing entirely counter-productive method of going about this, to inflate his ego, which he's had to fill since retiring. I've never chanted anything homophobic. I've got many gay/bisexual/trans friends who I've been to gay clubs with many times, and had a quality time. I know for certain I am not homophobic, but this feels like a personal attack on everyone related to the football club.

However, I'm wiling to be better-educated on the matter and I think Hambo's suggestion of interviewing Mr Thomas is to be applauded One of the best sporting events I've ever been to was watching American Ice Hockey at the Staples Center (LA Kings). Ice Hockey isn't a game for wimps, the crowd was electric, amazing atmosphere. Yet children and families everywhere and not a bad chant heard from anyone. Still an amazing atmosphere and event. Truth is football doesn't need these chants when they're clearly offensive to minoritys. Homophobia might be a non issue to you but if your not gay then does your opinion on it really matter..? This is London in the 21st century and chanting homophobic songs on the terraces is going to just bring shame on our club like the vile animals at Millwall bring on there's. Palace & Proud.
