Suggestion made by someone else on the Adrian thread and to be fair I think it's a great shout.

Middlesbrough released him from his contract so he's a free agent, would imagine wages will be high.

Personally think he's a class keeper.

On the decline in my opinion. He played only 35 games in 3 years since leaving Barca. He's 35.

He might be 35 but looked damn good for Boro last year and was part of a pretty tight defensive unit despite them being relegated. 35 games in 3 years is a bit misleading as he was largely a No 2 keeper at Utd so wasn't going to play many games. How many games did Cillessen play for Barca last season?

He's hugely experienced at the very top level, out of contract so no transfer fee, and whilst his wages might be substantial I doubt they would be anymore than an average player in our squad is currently on. Plus he has Premier League experience.

Unless he is a disruptive influence (not really sure what the fallout at Man Utd was) I don't really see the downside in getting him in for a couple of seasons

Was this about the player saying he wouldn't play in a game for the reserve team ?

It doesn't solve the problem because at best he got 2 years in the top flight. We already got a veteran goalie in Speroni at 38 years old. It would be silly to bring a goalie that 35, 3 years Speroni junior. We need a goalie in their prime, would love heaton but maybe too expensive. I expecting a lot boob jokes but Alphonse aréola, he looking to leave psg, had an impressive loan spell at villareal 2 seasons ago. He also very good with his feet, something that de Boer may look for. I wouldn't think he'd be more than €8m.

That the psg goalie wants to leave, there was suggestion that he could fill the Chelsea #2 spot.

Buys us two years to find / afford a top keeper..

If our other options are buying a stop gap nearly good enough keeper then I'm sure they'll be upgraded within two years. So why not plum for the class keeper.

Anyway we've not been linked with him so can't see it happening but I certainly wouldn't be sad if it did.
