So North Korea fire another missile that could reach the USA. China (the only country that could have influence) do nothing. So what happens next?
But whatever happens, I want that North Korean female news reader given asylum here. Such enthusiasm! Ok she has an anti aircraft.gun pointed at her head. But she would make a great member of Loose women panel and actually make it watchable.

China do need to act and if diplomacy doesn't work then serious trade embargoes, because sooner or later they'll be a war head in one of these things. And I doubt China wants millions of North Korean refugees piling into their country.

It's tricky....Seoul is just a few miles from North Korea.

The North Koreans have masses of artillery trained on it.

Attacking North Korea...anything short of complete mass nuclear destruction would be tantamount to risking the lives of hundreds of thousands of your allies. Mass nuclear destruction would affect the South too.

It's difficult.

Still, the west must refuse to pay the nuclear blackmail that's coming down the line. Because it's coming....a modern version of the vikings demanding gold to temporarily refrain from attacking.

There's a benefit to China to have the North Koreans as the unacceptable face and them as the brokers.....NK is their little dog nipping at the western heels.

Alternately the USA could always drop one of their MOAB on them in a few select places.

Massive risk though.

I think we will only see action if the west is forced into it.....It pisses me off but I think we are going back to a kind of cold war bulls***.

Our government should be building communal nuclear shelters.

There's a kind of ignoring the issue born out of an unwillingness to accept the direness of where we are.

That was just a stunt.

A MOAB is pretty useless against armour, it just makes a loud bang and would be a bit nasty if you were in the open in a confined space. It's a daisy cutter style bomb for use against infantry

There were only 15 built, it's for shock and awe not proper warfare.

Nuclear Fall Out signs are very common in NYC. There is one just down the Block from me on the school wall.

Reckon there'd be a market for nuclear destruction type stuff on mugs and t shirts.

In Britain most people just don't think about this issue....It's kind of like the US before 9/11, there is an unrealness, as if these things are a threats for others to deal with.

I mean we have Corbyn and his adoring followers still thinking that not having a nuclear deterrent is a good idea. I've always suspected that really in truth...they are happy to offload responsibility to big brother in the US whilst having the freedom to slag him off any opportunity they get. There's no honour in it independent of the dubious logic.

I'm just an average joe with an average IQ yet this looks very dangerous to me when you actually think of the safety first approach the US has to its allies. It's only going to attack NK if it thinks it's a no lose scenario. Essentially everything is a hedging of bets which is understandable but that only works with rational actors.

I think on the balance of probabilities NK won't attack the US.....However, I'm pretty sure they are going to attempt blackmail. Also, I think they would entertain the likelihood that they could take South Korea with that nuclear cover and unite the country.....though when you look at their army it's focused upon deterrence....they want to continue their slave state.

Regardless I want to know why no one is raising the fact that there are no options for the population in a nuclear attack. Communities should be able to come together and create and stock underground facilities.

Because if they did, North Korea would retaliate against South Korea and Japan - quite probably before the US could deliver any kind of knock out strike.

The problem of North Korea isn't really about its capacity to hit the US, its the fact that it would strike against key Western allies in Japan and South Korea - and has the capacity to launch massive damage to those nations (almost certainly utilising weapons of mass destruction - possibly even biological). Striking somewhere like Tokyo with such weapons would cause catastrophic casualties.

MOAB create a massive implosion as well. Unless the tank or bunker is sealed, that implosion will draw all of the air out of the blast area, which will suffocate people in a large radius. Casualties from MOAB can end up evacuating their lungs such is the pressure created by the implosion. Its a very nasty 'side effect' of the MOAB.
