Little of what I've seen in the first 3 friendlies on TV makes me convinced we are going to be competitive.

As many have pointed out, how we perform when the PL starts will give us more information. The art of ball possession and taking it forward is an alien concept for many of our team and are skills not quickly learnt.

We still lack a really competent and confident Fabrigas type midfielder and do not seem to have many options up front other than crosses and free kicks to Benteke.
Where is Plan B if he and/or Zaha get injured?

And yes Willo, Huddersfield is the kind of team we have slipped on banana-skins to in the past!

I tend to agree with some of the previous,we certainly dont look that good, and we are definately in need of more quality,We only escaped by the skin of our teeth last season, and we certainly havent done enough business close season to make us look any better than bottom six strugglers,I am sorry if others dont agree, but that is where we are going to be,and I really dont want that!!!

You clearly been 'willo'ed. The negative vibes are spreading. Take a look back at the squad, when we faced wba (last season). I agree the depth isn't there but you can only choose 11 players. Signings will come, we just have to be patient.

True to an extent in that it certainly felt that we struggled at times (we did), but we still finished a whole 7pts clear, and fewer points off 8th (in what was admittedly a poor league).

My take on it is this: we underperformed last season, and Sam did well to save us but really what he did was get us to perform more to our players' standard. Many said it was his easiest job when he first took us on because of the players we have (however a shocking run, at the start despite definite improved performances, made his job harder than he thought). What I am getting at is that this squad with a half-decent manager should do alright. Yes, it's thin, but when has it not been? It was thin when we finished 11th and 10th too. We could do with some more signings but we're not f***ing s*** as some posters seem to be saying. We have a very good first XI (12/13 maybe) but it is the lack of cover in some areas which is worrying over a season. But we are Palace and we can't have a 25 where every player is top-half standard. Not just yet anyway.

Huddersfield has been a bogey-team for us before, do not take anything for granted when we kick off August 12th. Meeting newcomers in their first game after promotion are never easy (home & away) - there might be some "thinking we are a better team than them" mentality. Whatever style, as long as we get the 3 points I'm happy-happy.

I think a draw is highly likely. Palace’s record at Selhurst against Huddersfield, since we started playing them on a more or less regular basis, is W4 D10 L3. In fact the last five meetings at Selhurst have all been draws, as have 9 of the last 12 going back to 1972. Also Huddersfield will have that promoted team bounce while Palace are gradually introducing this new formation.

Fantastic. My thoughts entirely.

This is the kind of palace we should be drinking with after matches. Oh yes.

Personally I'm looking forward to us playing a more of a possession and passing game. I'm p****d off at watching teams like bournemouth play us off the park. They seem to play good football without the 7 or 8 world class players some people seem to think you need.

FDB is new to the club. I think it is a case of seeing what some of these players can do under match conditions against senior sides.

As for Huddersfield, I happen to think this is a potential 'Banana Skin'.

"Those performances" we're achieved with a system the team was comfortable with and, as those results showed, turned out to be rather good at. We're now entering uncharted territory with the same team, with the only additions an inexperienced 21 year old and a 20 year old reserve with no PL experience whatsoever. In those circumstances a wise man would be well advised to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

Is this the point of the summer where we all have to choose whether we are either a) going to qualify for Europe; b) get relegated, or c) none of the above?

I go for c.
